Finally got my home studio up an running again and to celebrate I recorded an old song. Hopefully this will be first of many new recordings. 

Northern Lights (2015)

Dug out this old song of mine from about 15 years ago and decided to record it properly (to the best of my abilities). I was clearly listening to a fair bit of Prince when I wrote it, not sure if the lyrical content is about a real life love-lorn situation or just something I imagined to fit the mood of the chords/melody. That's usually how I write, find the mood first then the rest will flow. The drum beat is from a little Yamaha keyboard I've had since I was a kid.

Writers Block

Here is an up to date version of my Christmas song. It's about hope, positivity, love and human kindness in the face of cynical commercialism.  
I asked a few friends to contribute to the track and make it sound like a party. Big thanks to Jono Ellis (backing vocals and glockenspiel), Ali Todd (cajon and backing vocals), Ewan Gibson (bass) and Cameron Phair (backing voacls, percussion, silly voices and jinglebells). It was great fun to reconnect with some old friends to make this. I think this is what Christmas is all about, getting together with friends or family and being glad to share the moment.
