Hypnotic sequence of a Richter Oscillator II phase-modulated by an Anti-Oscillator (Mayhem output). The Boogie filter is used as a LowPassGate filter/VCA.

Hypnotic wind

The melodic pattern is generated by a Turing Machine (Random Loop Sequencer) passed through a Toppobrillo Quantimator quantizer.

The sound source is a Malekko/Richter Oscillator II. SAW 1 and SAW 2 outputs are mixed together, but I've modified several times the amount of SAW 2 to accentuate or remove the phasy effect. SAW 2 is phase modulated by a slow LFO.

The vocal-like filtering is a Malekko/Wiard Borg 1 filter (the white one with the slow vactrols) with the jumper removed on the PCB, in BP mode.

The VCA is a Cwejman VCA-2P in linear mode driven by a Malekko/Wiard Envelator whose D-Mod knob is hand modified during the sequence, morphinig from staccato to organic-like envelope shape.

Recorded with a MIO2882 in Ableton Live 9 with a delay effect and a touch of The Glue compressor for good measure.

The Borg 1 sequence

This is a sound demo of the Malekko/Wiard Boogie filter used … as a filter. You can successively hear the 6dB, 12dB, 18dB, 24dB outputs, and then without and with the Envelator SQR in the Boogie KEY IN.

I've used here the same trick as the "Malekko/Wiard Boogie LPG examples". The trick here was to use the Malekko/Wiard Envelator both as a pulse and as an attack-decay envelope generator. The SQR output of the Envelator is plugged into the KEY IN of the Boogie, the +OUT of the Envelator is plugged into the CV input of the Boogie. Only the CV CONTROL and RESONATE knobs were hand-modified in realtime.

Modules used: 2 x Cwejman VCO-6, Cwejman VCA-4MX, Manhattan Analog MIX, Malekko/Wiard Envelator, Malekko/Wiard Boogie.
Effect: Eventide Eclipse.

Rhythm permutations

This demo track is part of a work on winter icelandic soundscapes and landscapes.
Technical notes for Wigglers : the random ping sound is made by 2 VCO-6 triangle waves processed by a uFold, which is then modulated by a Sport-Modulator (used as triangle wave LFOs). Then the sound is going through a Borg1 filter in LGP mode.

White Horizons

This is a sound demo of the Malekko/Wiard Boogie filter. You can successively hear the 6dB, 12dB, 18dB and 24dB outputs, un-processed and then processed (I'm a reverb freak ...).

This filter is vactrol-based (it uses a photo-resistance). This is quite a versatile, but unusual, filter with multi low pass outputs. You can use it as a "normal" filter, but also as a LoPass Gate (à la "Buchla"). The vactrol used in this filter is rather fast but a nice trick is used here to have a longer more 'natural" decay of the sound.

LoPass Gates are know to be "ping-ed" by a very short pulse to sound at their best. The trick here was to use the Malekko/Wiard Envelator both as a pulse and as an attack-decay envelope generator. The SQR output of the Envelator is plugged into the KEY IN of the Boogie, the +OUT of the Envelator is plugged into the CV input of the Boogie. The SQR makes the LPG opened and the ENV out adds a nice natural decay to the overall sound, use the CV CONTROL knob to adjust the decay.
