The Orb founder Dr Alex Paterson has been an extremely busy man of late. Having helmed the prolific ambient house collective for over three decades, he's now adding several new ventures to his evergrowing arsenal.

Among these are a fresh new label, Orbscure Recordings, which will be a platform for Alex's output under his various guises. Launched under Robin Collins' Cooking Vinyl imprint, the label will also be an opportunity for Alex to show off his A&R skills, an area he cut his teeth in for EG Records. First up is a collaborative release from himself and fellow Orb member Andy Falconer under the name Sedibus, which was predominantly masterminded remotely and marks the pairs first work together in almost 30 years.

On top of the new label and the fresh collaboration, Alex has also announced the release of ‘Babble on an' Ting: Alex Paterson's Incredible Journey Beyond the Ultraworld with The Orb’, a book written by close friend and journalist Kris Needs that documents his life from childhood through to The Orb's activities and his brand spanking new label.

It's a wonder he managed to find the time to steer the ship for this week's Monday Is OK mix. It is literally what the doctor ordered—he also prepped the Hors d'oeuvres, set the table and paired it with an interview about various bits and bobs—so get yourself comfortable and let Alex helm the boat safely out of Plymouth...

Dub techno is sometimes produced with vocals resulting in surprinsingly good results more than often. I ve selected 25 tracks which features vocalists (and some vocal samples) like Paul St-Hilaire and Benji. This is slowly meandering spacedub with deep, peaceful and dreamy lush ambient pads and dubby basslines. Though the old Rhythm & Sound influence is still clear—especially on the track Child was I—but what these producers are making truly feels fresh.

Artist: The Open Circle [Greyscale / Crossfade Sounds/ Axaminer / OHM Series / ODrex]

Our 17th Frontier journey comes from Belgian producer Geert Thirry better known as - The Open Circle. We have been big fans of The Open Circle since we discovered his music a few years ago. He is an incredible producer and very versatile artist, who’s music can span from deep ambient soundscapes, to low slung chuggy dub techno all the way up to full dance floor fist pumping Techno. His production is mostly done using a Modular synthesizer and some other hardware. Then Layered textures and evolving rhythms are built to define the signature style with analog warmth and hypnotic depth.  

Geert has been producing music for many years, His first EP was actually released back in 2003 on the UK label ” Lost Language “as a double vinyl. Released under the alias Karada the release was more in the melodic Techno sphere. Since then his style and sound has developed into the deep Dub Techno he is known for today. His productions have been gathering more and more acclaim with his recent release on the legendary Greyscale placing him firmly towards to the top echelons of the Dub Techno world. 

We are honoured to be able to welcome Geert to the Dub Explorations and Frontier family and look forward to hearing his future productions.

Back in May, we Debuted a track called "Just"; you might just have heard of it. @feelmybicep are no strangers to breakout belters, but even by their standards this one has been picking up a heap of plaudits. So naturally we're more than willing to help facilitate their next step toward world domination, especially given as it arrives via their own cherished namesake imprint.

This, the title track from another forthcoming collaborative release with Hammer (an artist the Belfast boys are putting serious muscle behind) is equally tense and beguiling. It hooks you in from the word go, with a nagging piano lead, ooft-y mini breakdown and shiver-inducing sirensong calling through the mist. Close your eyes and you can imagine "Dahlia" laying waste to festival stages – oh wait, that actually did actually happen at Bicep's homecoming BR. Go figure.

You can physically feel FMB005 from September 7th.

Mathame’s highly-anticipated ‘Nothing Around Us’ arrives on Afterlife Recordings this September 7th.

The richly talented duo Mathame featured on the second Realm Of Consciousness compilation and have since been regulars in the sets of Tale Of Us with some sought-after, unreleased tracks. Their distinctive treatment of vocals marks their tracks out instantly, nowhere more so than on ‘Nothing Around Us’, with the cyber voice of the young Italian artist Lyke. The top quality production and original sound continue with the more understated ‘22’ and end with another prime example of Mathame’s vocal work, ‘Fade Into You’. This EP is a bold statement that crystallises the well-deserved excitement around Mathame.

Mathame refine their singular sound on ‘Skywalking’ and a collaboration with Tale Of Us, ‘Departure’.
Following 2018’s ‘Nothing Around Us’ single, Mathame show no sign of slowing down. Their Afterlife Recordings follow up is a dancefloor single of epic proportions, taking the duo further into a realm of their own. Tension hangs off the sliding chords and spacious arrangements. In the case of ‘Skywalking’ it reaches an uplifting, euphoric crescendo, in Tale Of Us’ intro edit of ‘Departure’ the theme goes darker and off-kilter. Bona fide anthems in the sets of Mathame and Tale Of Us.
