Hey Hey, Happy New Year to everyone, we are very proud to start this new cycle with Times New Roman, One of the founders and active members of the renowned and respectable Digital Tsunami (@digitaltsunami), a key platform in the electronic scene, which has been sharing top-notch music since its creation in 2013 and branched out into a must-to-attend festival, DT Camp in Lithuania.

“Owelle": frenchified word derived from the English expression “Oh well”. Repurposed by Valérie Siron as her pseudonym to reflect her work ethos: serious, but without making a fuss.

Surfacing from Geneva’s club culture with a graphic design background, Owelle’s drive to synergise the audio and the visual power her expression of creative identity. Her compositions are imagined and built without boundaries, albeit replete with nods to previous genres ranging from early 2000s breakbeat, braindance and broken beat techno.

Intrigued by sensory immersion, Owelle further laces her art with interactive tools including programming, sound spatialisation and installation. Diving into a spatiotemporal journey, subtly incorporating their uses into her musical works. By blending her passion for diligent sound designing, field recordings and psychedelic vocals is how Owelle presents her approach to experimental music. 

Owelle’s creativity offers an intrinsic connection of her tailored rhythms and melodies to birth an original hybrid of sound and visual art. Owelle questions the importance of sound in relation to the individual’s environment. To blur the border between noise and aesthetically pleasing. To ride the waves between discomfort and delight and to find the potentially hidden role of situational awareness and relating it to musical endeavours derived from the
emotions within.

For its second release of the year, Veyl welcomes composer, producer and visual artist Laggard to the label with new EP, 'Permanent Daylight'. Constructed from sonics that resemble, either literally or figuratively, the unpredictable and unmanageable creaks, cracks and groans of nature at its most volatile, the release consists of five original compositions guided by an implicit narrative: an unknown, cataclysmic event befalls an Antarctic research station. As a project, Laggard is a space in which the artist owns his restlessness and allows for a continuous evolution of sound and space, deploying the tropes of experimental live music and bass music against one another.

Inspired equally by the genre-less excursions of Godspeed!, Liturgy and Coil as the sub-heavy deconstructions of Ben Frost, The Haxan Cloak and Mumdance, we also find traces of Ed Rush and the performatively mutant aspects of early grime instrumentals. While also performing as co-frontman of acclaimed four-piece band, Folly Group (So Young/Communion, Ninja Tune), Laggard operates in a different space, finding the overlap between these areas in terms of mood, when “mood” is considered neither an emotional colouration nor decoration upon a structure, but the structure itself. The result is a powerful EP of electronics which is defined by its breadth but bound by one distinct palette, one hyper-specific vision.

A truly immersive experience, 'Permanent Daylight' plunges the listener into the unknown realms deep beneath the surface. A place where soil meets rock meets the unknown, articulating the violent shifts of the earth that is deeper than the earth. Laggard explains: 

As I finished Permanent Daylight, I found that referring to a loose narrative helped guide me through the maze of perfectionist indecision. This story isn’t supposed to be remotely explicit, and I hope listeners draw their own conclusions about the events and their chronology. Implicitly, Permanent Daylight documents some cataclysmic event occurring at an Antarctic research station. I used Unity to create an interactive accompaniment that documents its aftermath. My aims were to embellish the world-building whilst providing a fun opportunity to subvert the linearity of the EP format and allow listeners to experience the release in whatever order they like, in a thematically consistent space. I couldn’t shake the notion that this music had to sound “tectonic”.

Serving as a conceptual knot to bind multiple inspirations and narrative threads, the interactive project depicts a liminal Antarctic desert, devoid of life, where meaning can only be uncovered by contact with symbolic monoliths, each representing and becoming one of the EP's tracks when touched.

There is no god, only people using the others' need of finding purpose in their insignificant existence.

There is no satan neither, satan is creation of the "holy" people to keep the believers scared, and thus easily controlled, obeying the true demons which those preachers serve - also people like you and me.

Hell is real, and it is on Earth. If you don't get what I mean, you are either part of the lucky minority or too stupid, or probably both.

The true evil does not like those educated in a way to be able to tell right from wrong without their shepherd.

Being kind to all and everything is purpose good enough. The evil always comes as an angel of light and gradually prevails. Those who truly believe that their purpose is to lead the others in the right direction are to be feared the most.

Providing proper education is fighting against evil. Perhaps your mother or first grade teacher is the real hero - those who fight in wars kill people.

p.s. They might say I'm fucked up.  Some like and pay to watch movies that scare them shitless, often involving a lot of blood and murder – isn’t that fucked up? These days, I can listen to 70-80s and nowadays truly good music more and more rarely. Actually, I have never had my own TV. Тhe TV news I catch in friends or relatives usually make me sad. It seems most people are interested in others' suffering more than anything else - the majority of them definitely deserve their faith.

p.s.2 This is my current view and I don't pretend it is right. It might change, everything changes.
