In Revelation 17, John mixes two metaphors. He speaks of a harlot and a sinful city. John's original audience would have recognized her as Rome, but he calls her “Babylon” to connect her to past empires and future ones. Babylon’s fall is both past and prophetic. Rather than assign the prophecy solely to Rome or the end times, we are invited to discern the Spirit of Babylon wherever it emerges—including today.

Revelation 18 unveils the fall of Rome—not just as a political entity, but as a symbol of corrupted greatness. Rome was indeed awesome: beautiful, unifying, culturally rich. But it became awful—proud, greedy, and violent. Its accomplishments masked deep injustice. The chapter mourns the fall of a city that once dazzled the world but demanded allegiance that belonged to God. Through this lens, we’re invited to discern the spirit of Babylon not only in Rome, but wherever pride replaces humility, wealth exploits the weak, and peace comes through coercion. The call is urgent: Will we spot Babylon when we see it?

Heaven’s praise rises not only for judgment but for joy—the long-awaited wedding supper of the Lamb.

Today’s sermon calls the church to serve with both heart and wisdom. While service is a core mark of discipleship, unchecked involvement can lead to burnout, strained family life, and a stifling of others’ gifts. The sermon affirms that God Himself values boundaries. Ministry must be a shared work—when some overextend, others are sidelined. The congregation is invited to reassess their service roles: some may need to say “no,” while others are being asked to step into new opportunities.

This sermon explores the first definition of “magnify”—to make something appear larger than it is—and how humans often do this to themselves. Using Daniel’s story, especially Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, we show how self-magnification leads to instability and madness. Drawing from Richard Beck’s “hero games” concept, we unpack how people seek significance through status, victimhood, or self-image and  propose humility, awe, and joy as the pathway out—rejecting ego games and embracing the transcendent God as our source of worth. Real joy comes not from magnifying ourselves but from being rightly sized before a magnificent Creator.

This sermon invites us to magnify the LORD by speaking highly of His unmatched greatness. God is omnipresent—always with us; omniscient—knowing us completely; and omnipotent—with unlimited power. Yet what truly makes God worthy of praise is not just His infinite attributes, but His holy love. In Jesus, God gave up divine privileges to walk with us, learn among us, and die for us. The One who could do anything chose to love us sacrificially. That is the greatness we magnify—not just in words or song, but in how we serve, trust, and live each day. Let God be magnified.

In this sermon, three small creatures—bees, moths, and gnats—teach big spiritual truths. Bees, in Scripture, appear in swarms that attack, reminding us to avoid environments where sin thrives. Moths, whose larvae quietly destroy valuable garments, illustrate how earthly wealth is fragile and fleeting. Gnats, which the Pharisees strained out to remain ceremonially clean, expose hypocrisy when small faults are nitpicked while major sins go unaddressed. The message: don’t get stung by sin, don’t cling to temporary treasures, and don’t focus on minor issues while ignoring major ones.
