This is an interview I did with Director Benito Bautista about his wonderful film BOUNDARY, which was part of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts New Filipino Cinema Series in 2012. I also interview one of the actors in the film, Edwin Nombre. This was originally done for the VCinemaShow podcast. The website VCinemaShow is still very much active, but the podcast is no longer, hence why I am placing this interview here.

This is an interview I did with Kogonada at CAAMFest 2013 in San Francisco. It was originally intended for VCinemaShow podcast. This interview has some direct connections to Hong Sangsoo since I practically beg Kogonada to produce one of these pieces on Hong Sangsoo.

The image I've chosen here is of me and my nieces on the day we first met. Behind us is Fukuoka, and since one of Kogonada's essays is on the work of Kore-eda Hirokazu, and since one of Kore-eda's films partly takes place in Fukuoka, (I WISH), I thought it appropriate enough an excuse for a proud uncle to show you how adorable his nieces are.

In Episode 1 of the Hong Sangsoo Scene Podcast (HSSS Podcast), I discuss the significance of a tiny little scene in OH, SOONJUNG! (aka THE VIRGIN STRIPPED BARE BY HER BACHELORS) involving the Seoul Subway.

The pic accompanying this episode is actually of the Busan subway since I couldn't find any of the pictures I've taken of the Seoul subway.

Episode 2 of the Hong Sangsoo Scene Podcast, the HSSS Podcast. This one is entitled "Paths Often Traveled: A Hongian Run-In with Hong Sangsoo", where I talk about my run-in with Hong that appeared as if a scene taken out from one of his films where characters repeat their steps down certain streets, through certain neighborhoods, and to similar establishments. 

The photo, as far as I know, has nothing to do with a Hong Sangsoo film directly, but it's a path I took often near Ewha University when I attended the Women's International Film Festival in Seoul couple times

Episode 2 - Paths Often Traveled: A Hongian Run-In with Hong Sangsoo

Episode 3 has me discussing how my appreciation of Hong Sangsoo's films might have been formulated by my appreciation for the I-Novels of Nobel Prize winning author Oe Kenzaburo's I-Novels. The photo attached is of a stature in front of a hotel in Busan. Since I talk a bit about Hong's film NOBODY'S DAUGHTER HAEWON in this podcast and a statue as marker is prominent in that film, I decided to use that image.

Episode 3: Hong Sangsoo's Films & the Japanese I-Novels of Oe Kenzaburo

In anticipation of 3 screenings of Hong Sangsoo's OUR SUNHI (2013) at the 57th San Francisco International Film Festival running from April 25th-May 8th, I got my podcast up and running again. Here I talk about how the last three films by Hong, along with all featuring women protagonists also feature women leaving South Korea.

The photo is of a palace I saw while at PIFF in 2006 that looks similar to the one featured in OUR SUNHI, Changgyeong Palace, but is not the same palace.

This the Hong Sangsoo Podcast, aka, the HSSS Podcast. A podcast focused on, obviously, the South Korean director Hong Sangsoo. I will occasionally include posts that only loosely relate to Hong Sangsoo, that is, podcasts related to other films or to South Korean topics in general.
