Shifting Waters

My internet connection had been broken for several months and this was another track that I had been waiting to upload. I collaborated with a singer for this song with the one and only Avery.T._Deacon-Harrie. His site is still there but he doesn't seem to have been active since 2010

Thanks to the Deacon for his splendid vocals, which added an extra dimension to the song, and made a humdrum song into something much more special

Snoozy Floozy

This tune is from 2006 and is one of my more accessible ones. This is what I wrote then

I used to play a lot of music, and listen to a lot of music, and basically live music. Then I didn't pick up a guitar, or play a CD, or even hum for several years. I started to play again about a year ago when I found a free multi-track recorder on the net (Kristal). 

What I have only recently realised is that music is probably the only thing that has ever meant anything to me, although I should have guessed years ago. Music is always there, and it is just something I have to do, to feel a whole person, and to clear out all the crap in my head. When I wasn't playing music I was basically a dead person. Music waited for me, and then when I was ready it found me again. 

This song tries to capture some of the wonder that I find in music, and the moment a few months ago when my eyes were opened and I finally understood how powerful music can be, and saw that it's all I ever need.

A few years ago I was asked to write some music for a local film director. He sent me a track by an established artist and told me to write something very, very similar: same melody, same arrangement, same instrumentation etc.

I may have misunderstood the brief but this sounded like breach of copyright! So I wrote something in the style of the original piece, which was easy listening coffee house jazz. The director didn't like what I produced, saying, "It's not even the same tune"

I emailed back to ask for guidance on what he wanted, pointing out that he seemed to be suggesting that by recreating the original track all copyright issues would be avoided, but I never heard from him again!
