Muzio Clementi was a tutor to the great piano pedagog Carl Czerny and an Italian composer in the high Classical style. This sonatina composed in the same year as Mozarts death is as charming as it is light-hearted and uplifting. 

My interpretation is to take the slow movement a notch faster and play more rubato. If played too slowly as an Andante it can sound rather lethargic; it's better simply to give the impression of Andante than actually play at that tempo. If you play the other movements faster the contrast can be the same. I feel 4m30secs is about the right amount of time for the whole piece.

Hugh Gregory Waldock started off his musical career as a church chorister in The Boys Choir of Widford Lodge Chelmsford and Ipswich School Chapel Choir.
