It seems as though every day brings with it fresh stories about the imminent demise of the media. Revenues are down, audiences are fragmenting, and in the wake of the extraordinary revelations uncovered by the Leveson inquiry in the UK, public trust of major media organisations is at an all-time low.

But there is still terrific journalism being produced in Australia. And, as the recently-announced Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year nominations show, there is a whole new generation of journalists emerging who are optimistic about the future of their profession, despite the doom and gloom.
