Following up the launch of RAM Records new RAMlife compilation series last year (which saw Loadstar offer up a platter of essential tracks), head honcho Andy C has tapped the man of the moment, Audio, for the second edition. 

Ordering an all-out assault on our eardrums, Audio collects 27 tracks from the likes of Optiv & BTK, DC Breaks, Ulterior Motive, Noisia, Bad Company, June Miller, Mejus and more, binding them together with the vicious RAM attitude that has helped the label dominate drum & bass. The album also features today's premiere 'Heavy Bettie VIP', an unstoppable cut from Neonlight, that is just as weighty as its name suggests!

The pilot quickly glanced either side of the cockpit, peering out through the oil-stained reinforced glass that separated him from the thick clouds of the permasmog that he and his fellow skykillers were now gliding through. Death’s whisper rode quietly on their tails, the promise of a further step into the unending cycle of violence as irresistible to it as the concept of the freshly slain under its ivory digits. The pilot had acquired a sense for its presence, drawing fierce consciousness as mortality skewered him viciously against the present. In a moment, they soared out of the thick wall of pollution and the skies lit up with stark abruptness as plumes of burning oil billowed from his brothers’ vehicles, their screams and burning skin engulfed by the rapid fractal destruction of their mechanisms. Death screamed with wild abandon at his hind, as he slammed a nitropellet into the furnace and smashed the rapidstart of his engine. The propeller whirled immediately into action, rocket thrusters firing and pushing him deep into his seat as the steam snaked through his nose ventricle and he became intertwined with his infernal engine, enveloping him in its toxic carnage. His hand moved to the bomb-bay switch, doors opening and a stack of murder rolling outside with the reaper swift behind, ready to collect the souls of the sunworshippers below, the infidel for whom the power of the perpetual engine is forever beyond.

Drum & bass titans Drumsound & Bassline Smith first appeared on SS’s Formation in 2001 with the still-savage double-A ‘Lazor Razor / Kilo’. Delivered just as their collaborative project was beginning to truly take shape, it caught a scorching moment in time for the artists, the labels and the rampant dark tech rolling sound at the time. It also led to a follow-up release on the label’s 100th release with the equally timeless ‘Fallin’’ several years later.  
Back to the future with full circle fire: Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s chiselled riff-hyped anthem ‘World Ain’t Ready’ is the perfect launch track for the ‘Formation 200’ album. A monolithic document featuring some of the most exciting innovators in the game old and new, ‘Formation 200’ is a celebration of everything the label has achieved in its near-30 year history. The longest running label in drum & bass, Formation and its various side labels have played a role in early careers of many massively influential acts: DJ Hazard, Commix, Nero, The Prototypes, G Dub, John B, Matrix, Twisted Individual, Distorted Minds, the list goes on and on.
