Hugo LX is a Paris-based DJ and Producer cruising from downtempo beats to soulful electronic dance music. With no less than two dozens of releases in the last 5 years, Hugo LX keeps on cruising in a constantly expanding, ever organic, yet electronic musical spectrum. His recent outputs - A pair of EPs with NY revered music master DJ Spinna on the prestigious NDATL imprint, a couple of singles for People of Earth and MCDE Recordings, and numerous remixes for legends such as Satoshi Tomiie, Rick Wade or Karizma - got him a special place in the current electronic soundscape.
Closely associated to the Japanese dance music scene, he has been curating the Japan Connection Festival in Paris, alongside Kuniyuki Takahashi, while he also continues working on his hip-hop and ambient catalogue. He is currently completing a brand new album blending all these genres to be released later in 2021.

We’re beyond excited to present you with our guest mix today from an artist that we hold in high esteem in the eclectic Hugo LX. His curiosity and keen interest in exploring the minute intricacies and complexity of electronic music led him to travel the world to discover and influence his creative process. Trying to associate Hugo LX to a specific genre or category would be neglecting the rich spectrum of sounds and aesthetics he invited his audience to delve into. For him, music is an experience lived through all of our senses. His background as a former architect enriched his understanding of how music can be experienced and how it flows in different kind of spaces and environments. 

Hugo LX boasts an impressive discography that includes releases on Balance Recordings, Mona Musique and MCDE recordings. His 2015 album “Akegata” is a reminder of his production beginnings and that his passion for beat making and atmospheric exploration remains. There’s no denying that Hugo LX is one that is pushing the boundaries of how we understand and experience music and is a household name in the electronic music industry.

In addition to treating us with a wide-ranging atmospheric mix, Hugo kindly accepted to answer a few questions and offer some insight as to how he approaches his creative process, what influences him and what comes next in his path.

A staple in the Paris dance scene with his crew La Mamies - they play all around the globe, organise countless parties, outdoor gigs and a world class festival - Theo has gathered through the years a wide and rigorous selection. By digging deep in record shop crates, he unearths soul- ful sounds, from house to jazz, always keeping it groovy.

The French artist, DJ and producer has a strong connection with the Japanese scene and developed his passion for beat-making from an early age - wielding his trusty SP1200 sampler to make a name for himself creating hip hop beats. As he honed his skill and explored a wide spectrum of sounds and styles he piqued the interests of venerated artists like Satoshi Tomiie, Rick Wade and Karizma - who took him on to remix their tracks. Meanwhile his own material saw releases on @MCDE-Recordings, @MonaMusique, Balance Recordings, and together with NY legend DJ Spinna put out a pair of EPs on NDATL Muzik.

Weaving together various forms of dance music he holds dear Hugo LX architected a lofty and energetic mix full of high-caliber funk, soul, disco, and jazz-infused house rhythms. The perfect thing to boogie to on a hot summer day.
