Beware, Discomatin is back. In 2018, the parisian crew of diggers and DJ’s originally known for their edits goes official with fully licensed and remastered reissues. For this new adventure, they chose an incredible in-demand french boogie EP from Diva, an eighties funk band from Bordeaux. 
Diva only released one EP with « La Nuit », a sentimental, almost poetic boogie banger with great synth, guitar and vocal parts. The track could honestly have been a radio hit in the eighties with some real promotion. Today, it’s still time to make it right and it is already an anthem in the french underground disco scene.  
Originally on the B side of the 1985 original release on Cactus, « La Nuit » is here available with its two different versions (12’’ and 7’’ mix) and comes also with « Prise Au Piège », a more synth-pop influenced funk track which gave its name to the original release.
The band was formed by Gabrielle Andriampanana, Alex Louisor and Olivier Renoir. Before Diva, these last two already played together in the local new-wave band Bolton which was one of the first of the area to use synthetisers. Even if they had a small recognition at the time, the original release stayed quite underground. Thanks to Discomatin, it’s now available to the real connoisseurs and still with the fantastic illustrations of french artist Camille de Cussac.

In the beginning of the summer of 2019, AM returns with four exotic edits and reworks to dance to on grass. Solima is a pitched down lush and spatial Afro gem that will cause instant euphoria on any dance floor, followed by a faster and uplifting African jam called Ali Baba. Both have that late 80’s synthetic vibe we dig so much. On the flip there are two tracks which are constructed upon respectively an Egyptian and a Turkish sample. Badaouiah reminds of Carl Craig’s edit of Congo Man, builds up slowly and gets highly hypnotic and deep, while the second track Mustapha rolls out a quirky rhythm pattern with a hysteric Turkish clarinet sample.

Comes in a disco bag, hand stamped with a new drawing by Frank Koedood.

Hell Yeah call upon their merry crew of grown up groove makers to revisit key tracks from Quiroga's widely acclaimed Passages album, with Whodamanny, Jazz N Palms, A Vision of Panorama and My Friend Dario all stepping up.

The original album was noted as Piccadilly Records's Best Balearic Album of 2019 and a year on is still providing solace for us in these strange times. First to add his own spin to it is Periodica associate Whodamanny from Naples, whose magical take on 'Martinica Feelings' made it onto the excellent recent Buena Onda compilation, which is out now. It is a big hearted vocal reinterpretation filled with stomping kicks and twisted synths that bring the funk next to withering sci-fi effects and happy piano chords.
