Fought It Hard
. 
Really fought it hard, your fallen cards... they felt the need to bring you down. Said it was your fault — impossible... you were always indifferent. 

Those names they gave: your darkest place. Some years and still, it weighs you down. Never knew it was just because you were a little different... 

Cry and just wonder why... you try to unpack all those tears but they won’t flow. Cry and just wonder why... you know they’re not worth all these tears but they just flow. 

Something in you knew it pierced the roots... it starts to lean, what can you do? One degree was slight, but start the flight, and time grew still and gave you up... 

There’s no why, there’s no reason. The colour of your skin is all they see and need to act like they’re right, like they’re above you. You’re just an excuse to lift their pride and rise... 

Cry, don’t you wonder why? You try to unpack all those tears but they won’t flow. Cry and just wonder why... you know they’re not worth all these tears but they just flow. 

Look around you now... these people count! They see you for you and won’t back down. Took a while to say: you’re so brave. Go ahead, start living!

Friday, March 13th (crazy, right?!) was the last day I saw my friends, my teachers. After school, my friend Hannah and I were actually talking about this whole COVID-19 situation... about how we didn't want to be quarantined, we didn't want to be scared. 
That day was a whole blur... I was stuck in my own head, with an SAT (which got cancelled...) the next day and all these tasks I had to do, I didn't pay attention to the world around me. 
I don't really remember that day because I wasn't actually living. I didn't fully listen to others, engage in meaningful conversations... I didn't seize any moments. And if I had known that Friday, March 13th would be my last chance to talk to people in person, hug them, laugh with them, I would have done everything differently. 
But the thing is, we never know, right?...

I don’t remember the last time you held me close… was there anyone else around? 
When was the last time I said I love you most? How can I not remember now? Surely I would’ve told you how… 

I am stuck with this: a foggy memory of us. I don’t even know what I had said… 
If I could turn back time to when I last saw you, I would do it all again, and do it right! 

If I had known it was our last time and I would never see you again, I would’ve done things differently: I would’ve held you tight, all night, forever… I would’ve taken your hand in mine and tell you all the things I want to say… 
If I had known it was our last time… 

I can’t remember what you and I were talking about… did we waste it on gossip at all? Or was it actually meaningful? But since when does that happen? 
When was the last time you said I love you now? Why don’t we ever talk about our moods? I guess we always talk about our food…
