Astral Records opens the fall season by welcoming Bolth to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Brazil, Bolth is a DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who has carved out his own unique place in the electronic music underground. With a clever co-ax of classic elements from the 70s and 80s with the melodic heart of house Music, Bolth creates a sonic intersection with technos foundational roots. A signature sound marked by crisp grooves, exacting sound design, and the symbiotic fusion of analog synths with digital undertones. First emerging in 2021 on the strength of his early tracks, Bolth would go on to compile an impressive resume across the next three calendar years, notching standout projects for ERRORR, New Tab Music, Panda Lab and Purified. Now, as 2024 reaches its final quarter, Bolth follows an excellent offering for SPECIES with his Astral Records debut Beyond Control. Beginning with the title selection, Bolth showcases a peak time approach which sets the tone for the EP. Full of colourful textures and cutting edge design qualities, the Brazilian smoothly blends punchy kick drums and tough undulating grooves, with fragmented synth mutations and roboticized vocals for an exhilarating journey into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the interlude, its a stereo field of hyperbolic effects and anticipatory tones which marry beautifully for a healthy dose of melodic tension, before a wave of drums cues a bass-driven drop and effects-laden finale. Rounding out the release are the mesmerizing sounds of Disruption. Tight, compact and bursting with mysterious energies, the tracks first movement is built around machine-gun grooves, spacey effects and hook-heavy arps, the latter of which carries a hip-swinging energy into the break. The narrative continues to progress across interlude, with trance-inducing bass tones and metallic motifs eventually revealing a flurry of pyrotechnic synths, one which pushes onwards to a finale that is equal parts groove-centric and cosmic.

Ethereal Labyrinth shapes a realm of fractured pulses and ghost-lit harmonics—an unstable dream that flickers between celestial stillness and tectonic vibration. This is not just a track; it is a digital exorcism, a shedding of sonic skin.

Genesis – Flicker Beneath the Surface
The opening feels like a transmission waking from static, thin strands of noise weaving into a trembling harmonic. The sound wavers, fragile yet purposeful, as though some dormant entity is learning how to breathe. Echoes coil inward, forming the first signs of consciousness.

Emergence – Pulse of the Subconscious
A slow, gravitational rhythm develops, pulsing like a murmur from deep within the earth. Synth textures drift in and out of focus—warped, spectral, half-dissolved—forming a hazy ritual of sound. The atmosphere is dense but not oppressive, more like the heavy air before a transformation.

Fracture – The Noise of Becoming
Midway, the track ruptures into glitchwork: clipped edges, shifting frequencies, stuttering artifacts. The music feels caught between states, like a digital chrysalis resisting the moment of metamorphosis. Patterns form, break, reform—never still, never fully knowable. This is the mind in flux.

Revelation – Shape in the Ether
From the chaos emerges structure: a slow, crystalline motif that spirals upward through the distortion. It feels like memory awakening, or identity crystallizing in real time. Rhythmic fragments reassemble into something more deliberate, more alive. The track becomes a pulse-driven mantra of becoming.

Dissipation – Return to the Hollow Light
The closing minutes dissolve into vapor. Textures thin, reverberations stretch across a wide, cold expanse, and the last tonal remnants fade like phosphor trails. What remains is the afterimage—a sense that the transformation persists beyond the audible realm.

🔮 Metamorphosis Through Noise:
Phōtánasis treats distortion not as decay but as evolution. Noise becomes the medium of change, the cocoon from which new forms emerge.
