Beggin'

Dear Listener,
Thank you for taking the time to listen to my new album.
Confluence was inspired by the beauty of both the natural and urban worlds, as well as by the amazing group of musicians you are lucky enough to hear for the next 45 minutes.
Writing took place throughout Australia and across the world, from Scottish lochs to Vanuatu volcanoes, and each track fits into the greater narrative with its own unique story.
The theme of “Confluence” balances the exploration of Art and the comfort of Pop, and finding nourishment where these two rivers meet: ideas are drawn from across the board, blending a myriad of influences, with catchy melodies, experimental forays and all knitted together with a strong sense of groove.
The writing and recording processes were often fused, allowing composition and production to flourish in exciting new ways. Recording was undertaken at the ANU School of Music, Myall and various home and portable recording studios, with all natural sound effects recorded on location.
A massive thankyou to the Friends of the ANU School of Music for providing funds for the recording and production of this album and to all the performers who gave up valuable time to be a part of this project.
Thanks also to Andrew Farriss for mentoring the process, to my saxophone teacher John Mackey for being of invaluable assistance to my playing and to Miroslav Bukovsky, Johannes Luebbers and all the staff at the ANU School of Music who continue to assist and inspire me.
Special thanks to all my friends and family for their unconditional advice, love and support.

After over a year of fun and hard work the finished product is finally complete for your enjoyment, and I couldn’t be prouder to share it with you.

Along The Lines (Feat. Hugo Lee)

My tri 6 composition which is a homage to the late Jean Giraud AKA Moebius. I created a visual narrative based on his illustrations that when pieced together tells the tale of a lone wanderer in space. He lands on a distance planet in search of information at a sandy bazaar where all manners of life are to be found. The track ends with the wanderer almost reaching his destination before being startled by a giant creature which gives chase. 

Pretty nerdy, but what're you gonna do? ;)

Poppy Reid chats to Jen Cloher, the Melbourne musician, songwriter, record label co-operator, and founder of workshop series I Manage My Music.

Jen popped into the APRA AMCOS offices in Sydney to talk about the importance of building a community around your business and how to do it, why it wasn’t always smooth sailing, and her advice for artists who are self-managed or who are looking to become self-managed.

Instrumental soundscapes, field recordings, feature vocalists and collaborators - Melbourne saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist Hugo Lee works in many corners of the music industry. As well as producing records he is an in-demand session musician, having performed with the likes of Icehouse, Andrew Farriss (INXS), Holy Holy, Jack The Fox, Thando, Riley Pearce and many more.
From his studio he works as an online session saxophonist as well as songwriting and composing for film/video games.
