The Trinidad Steel-Band - L'Homme A La Grosse Tête (Loy Loy dub)

"Sakoneta" is the new single from multi-instrumentalist Jean Dasso, better known as Yeahman. "Sakoneta" is an evocative and transporting fusion of the folk and electronic influences that define Yeahman's signature downtempo sound. A fluttering of guitars and spacey synthesizers drift and coalesce into a ruminative and soothing sonic journey. Ultimately, "Sakoneta" provides comforting warmth and pause for reflection as the end of a chaotic year draws near.

Yeahman promotes the breaking down of barriers in electronic and world music. His live sets combine his own productions and various fine selections, drawing influence from every continent with global bass-downtempo stylings providing a common denominator.

Powered by the international success of his single "Miniyamba" (Shika Shika, 2019), his career is now taking him to another level. In Spring 2017 on Brazilian avant-garde label Frente Bolivarista he released "Transborda”. His first self-produced EP, “Transborda” was a mission statement that deployed traditional folk influences and his own vision of dreamy and powerful electronic music. Here he shaped his identity, based on ethnical and popular music, studded with new tropical sounds, and pierced by intense electronic vibrations.

Apart from his lifestyle as an artist, Yeahman is also a cultural activist in his hometown of Toulouse, France. He founded and now curates the "Ghetto Sonido" events, associating live bands and DJ sets. He also programs the World Music Festival "Rio Loco", and is involved in several humanitarian initiatives, against climate change (Extinction Rebellion, Earth Night) and human rights (Autonomie) among others.

This wonderful VA compilation displays 29 musical stories that tribute Pre-Columbian and post-colonial tribes across South-Central America, crafted with a futuristic & flexible approach by a beautiful team of artists deriving from 18 different countries on planet earth.

The artwork was created by the Tel Aviv-based artist Alyona Kobets a.k.a Eyes & Scissors, which works with her scissors to create endless stories with the use of existing materials extracted from books & magazines.

This raw composition gives a glance at the pagan ancient beliefs of Latin American tribes and their advanced astrological aspirations.
At the center, we can see a symbol of Pre-Columbian human creation connected to the 'Latin heart'. The welcoming wooden hand displays the symbiosis that took place between humans and nature, while the majestic jaguar reminds us that he is the true ruler of the continent. For Amazonian natives, the jaguar is everything: The power, the energy of nature, the god of fertilization, and the ruler of the two worlds; Night & Day. The planets around are symbols of their observations of the movement of the earth, while the sacred animals represent some of the astrological signs in Tribal cultures.

Prepare yourselves for a colorful journey following the ancestral tribes of Latin America, across the vast plains of the continent, throughout its majestic mountains and endless jungles, as seen through the eyes of futuristic humans.

Premiere: Ibu Selva - Orphidea (Camel Riders)

Anka Foh is made up of Malian singer Dasmy Jo and French producer Ditti. The duo met at a series of culture mashing, genre defying jam sessions between musicians from all over the world in Paris’ underground bars. The two artists clicked and came together to work on some of Dasmy’s original compositions - within a few months decided to form Anka Foh.

Shika Shika is excited to share their first EP, Kounady, four tracks of much needed upbeat, joyful, soul music that finds a magical sweet spot between Dasmy’s original compositions, inspired by Mandingue traditional music, and Ditti’s jubilant electronica.

Though the fours compositions are rooted in the West African mandingue tradition, they are taken into a whole new context. Dasmy’s vocals and instrumental lines sit alongside swirling, airy melodies, swaggering beats and Ditti’s trademark bleeps and psychedelic, dreamy synths - the recipe for an explosion of delicious flavours and colours. 

This is summed up on opener Bara or the driving electro-blues track Tâtâ, a song about giving thanks to those that helped and supported us in our lives. The EP ends with the fittingly beautiful lullaby Kounady (a mandingue word that roughly translates as luck) about how we have to look after ourselves and avoid negativity.
