Micro Shift started as an exploration of FM synthesis, on a digital workstation (software) known as Ableton.
I started this project in 2019 and rarely worked on it, but over many years I created some tasty sounds and couldn't resist the temptations to make some grooves with them. Because of the vast variety of sounds I made and my initial inability to stylistically hone in on a specific sound, it was largely by chance that many of these grooves came to fruition.
When trying to combine the shorter grooves, many of them did not relate to each other and sounded incoherent and disjointed. These challenges helped me learn many small but essential mixing techniques in order to bring together layers of musical elements, and create smoother transitions.
I named it "Micro Shift" because it explores/ shifts between various short grooves.
