Moroccan producer Cee ElAssaad & KEENE partnered on a journey to explore and share their vision on two numbers for this EP, which represents only a small piece from the puzzle of the vast diversity of music styles across the African continent.

Africa is famed for its cultural vitality and musical richness. In the countryside, music remains a largely participatory and integral part of everyday cultural life and, in the townships and the modern cities, these deep-rooted traditions have given birth to a wide variety of popular music styles that proliferate across the continent, in the global African diaspora and in centers of 'World Music' around the world.

The songs of Africa are renowned for the profound social and political role they played in the struggle against Apartheid rule. African music was also amongst the core powerhouses that fuelled the development of the 'World Music' movement in the 1980s and its music continues to hold symbolic currency in the representation of 'Africa' in the global imagination today.

'Butundaile' is a traditional chant from "Luba-Shankadi" people in Zaire usually sung in marriages. These interpretations are both powerful, yet deeply harmonious, creating an environment in which the groove moves fluidly, making them a very special addition to the Cacao catalog.

'Ake Yoruba' is a quite intense track that finds its way forward through its thumping drums and bubbling arpeggios that creates an edgy tribal atmosphere. 'Ake' is a Nigerian Yoruba chant, which was sung as a form of motivation for Yorubian workers to help pass the time.

Montreal duo @bahamcollective serve up a scintillating new single on Kindisch that comes with a remix from Philipp Jung, formerly one half of M.A.N.D.Y.. 

Baham aim to express their own memories, stories and history in the rhythms of their electronic dance music. They meld the old and the new into mystical expressions steeped in culture and built on enchanting beats. They showcase that here on a brilliantly tender new groove that is rich in cultural references. 

'Mara Beboos (Golnaraghi)' is a seductive six-minute track with languid bass and rolling kicks that sink you into a state of deep hypnosis from the off. The playful melodies bring a sense of charm before falling away to reveal some exotic vocal chants all the way from the Middle East. It all adds up to a hugely characterful cut. 

Philipp Jung is the Get Physical Music and Kindisch A&R and a legendary German DJ and producer who toured the world and co-wrote many dance music hits as one half of M.A.N.D.Y. He flips the original into a more club-ready house cut with bouncing drums, hooky percussive sounds and curious melodies that lead you even further down the rabbit hole into a world of late-night whimsy. 

These are two unique new house grooves from Kindisch.

Accomplished collaborators El Mundo & Zazou work their magic once more on a pair of superb new tunes for Kindisch. 

El Mundo has been in the scene for 20 years, firstly as a DJ in his hometown of Nijmegen before building an international reputation alongside Satori. Once he moved to Berlin, he hooked up with Zazou and found some real musical kinship which led to releases on various fine labels as well as the birth of his Quetame label. Meanwhile, Zazou is an instrumentalist at heart and every new track he makes is based solely on analog hardware: synths, drum machines, samplers guitars, and effect pedals. He has done it all from downtempo to tribal to deep house and impresses again on this new release. 

Their first tune is 'Speed Of Sound,' a gorgeously deep house cut with a lullaby-like main melody that could be a long-lost brother to Booka Shade's dance classic 'Body Language.' Here the chords are paired with a lush guitar line and rolling bassline that is sure to get plenty of parties under its spell. Add in whispered vocals and you have a subtly standout tune. 'Sleeping In The Rain' picks up the pace with a more angsty house groove, textured hits and raw guitar riffs. It's a unique mix of sounds and styles with a subversive filtered vocal floating high above as the lush chords help elevate your mood. 

These are two delicate but devastating house tracks.

Crosstown Rebels’ Rebellion imprint welcomes a debut outing from French artist Joseph Maglia, AKA Maglia. Co-founder of and resident at the Mykonos based Moni nightclub and studio, Maglia delivers the four track Chouia EP that pays homage to sounds that have inspired him through his years in music.

"This EP encapsulates multiple influences on my journey as a music producer, which started many years ago,” says Maglia. “Some of these tracks are old sessions, whilst others are relatively new but they have all been polished and finished in our studio based in Mykonos, Greece. Middle Eastern sonorities and their deep sonic signatures have always fascinated me; the vibrations translated via synth lines and live recorded drums, in my opinion, gives the perfect synergy for dance floors."

The title track Chouia opens the EP, introducing the first instance of Middle Eastern influenced melodies alongside progressing percussion throughout. Rohya follows and raises the energy as entrancing synth lines enter over a pulsing bassline. The EP’s theme carries through into Barde as wind instruments are introduced alongside rhythmic elements before Maglia then closes the EP with the mesmeric and percussive led track Biskra.

With over 20 years of DJ experience, Maglia has dedicated his life to music and the creative arts. It was this passion that led him to co-found the Moni establishment in 2013 which quickly became a point of reference in the clubbing scene, welcoming the likes of Dixon, Seth Troxler, Bill Brewster, Honey Dijon and many others. Maglia’s entrepreneurial spirit also saw him co-found the label and party Bordel Ensemble alongside friends Opus Dehli, Jheab & Peggy Gou, as well as co-founding the lifestyle collective London Village Kids. The quiet times through 2020/21 saw Maglia lay focus on his own music, paving the way for his timely debut on Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion.

Mona Yim debuts on Rekids with ‘Gotta Do This, Gurl’, featuring remixes from Radio Slave.

Born and raised between Singapore and Germany and now based in Berlin, Mona Yim spent time bouncing between the clubs of London, Berlin, and Paris while honing her craft, culminating in a recent remix for DJ Seinfeld’s ‘Tell Me One More Time’ on Ninja Tune. Now readying her debut solo release on Rekids, Mona Yim delivers two dreamy house cuts for the imprint, backed with a pair of remixes from label-boss Radio Slave.

Leading the release, ‘Gotta Do This, Gurl’ brings crispy, bouncing drums alongside moody pads and subtle vocal chops, building up to an emotive breakdown. Radio Slave beefs up the drum patterns with breakbeats for his remix, adding additional atmospheric FX to existing melodic elements for a chunky, driving track. 

‘Dots Obsession’ sees floaty percussion, gentle synth work and vocals working in tandem to craft a soft yet evocative house jam. Injecting a pumping 4/4 pattern alongside elements of the original, Radio Slave’s interpretation brings the energy levels up with pitch-perfect dub FX and swirling synthesis.

Bedouin enlist Filippos for ‘After Why’ on Human By Default this September.

Based in Thessaloniki, Greece, Filippos has already made an impact in the scene with productions on labels such as Connected and Madorasindahouse. Now readying his first appearance on Bedouin’s Human By Default label, the artist delivers his latest work, offering up two of his slickest productions to date.

Leading the release is ‘After Why’, featuring vocals from Dimp, with the track twisting and turning through powerful passages of modulating synths, reverberated vocals, and sizzling percussion. The accompanying track, ‘Still Life’, marries pounding kicks and wonky instrumentation for an evolving and emotive earworm.

Greek trailblazer Filippos has released his stylish sounds on this label in the form of previous tracks like 'After Why'. His music aims to speak directly to listeners, and he mixes up odd sounds and unique drum designs with plenty of contemporary style, all with plenty of fresh melodies.

The opener 'Stray Man' has a taught and tight bass loop that props up the thunderous claps as tender vocal whispers bring the soul. Urgent synths up the edginess of the groove and ensure the dance ﬂoor will remain ﬁrmly on its toes. Then comes 'Places & Faces', another moody house cut with dark energy and snappy, militant snares. Balmy pads swirl up top, and angelic vocals at the breakdown mean this is another captivating and standout track.
