Breath & Sea (Cello Sears)

I had originally written this song as a favour for a friend who was in Art School at the time. His final Seniour project for his Graduate's Degree was to present a fully animated feature "film" that was at least 15 minutes in length.  He chose to use the first few minutes of the film to introduce three characters he had made up, each animated character introduction being about a minute and a half in length, and then using the remaining ten minutes of his animation to show the three characters interacting via a storyline.

This song was written as the score music for his character Mizyako. And although I had originally named it Fluency, it ended up being credited in his feature as "Mizyako's Theme".

Either way, it was fun to make, and my friend got an A on his project, graduated, and now works for some fancy animation company in Canada.

Which clearly his amazing artistic talent has nothing to do with me, but I like to pretend my lil' song helped win over his teacher.
Well. Sonically, at least.

                              

Fluency (Cello Sears)

Again, this is just a clip, and a demo version, at that. I will probably post the actual studio version of this sometime down the line, but for now, the nice raw version I think showed how much potential this song had. At the time, I recorded only a guitar, one synth sound from my keyboard, some growly sounds to placehold for the drums, and some random sounds I had recorded on a tiny handheld digital recorder, including applause and different types of phones ringing. And then of course, I tweaked them and made them sound...interesting. And this is just the first verse of the demo version. Lol. The final version came out quite strange indeed. Regardless, enjoy the stripped down early takes of it.

Unhinged [preview cut] (Cello Sears)

This is one song of 8 total, that came to comprise the album "One Take Sessions".  The idea was to do some well known cover songs, but to do it all in one take, mistakes and warts and all. 

In the case of this song, the volume is very low, which I apologize for. I have yet to figure out how to adjust the volume levels without degrading the already shaky quality of the song.

This one had been recorded very spontaneously, one late night at a friends house. I had hooked the guitar into a dual input amp, and then hooked a mic through a guitar effects pedal board and then into the same amp. 
But since I still had no way to record it, I positioned my phone on the ground next to my feet, making sure I was a good distance away, and hit record. 

This is what resulted. So...albeit the quality of recording is pretty low, and the volume is barely audible unless its turned all the way up...
I think it came out fairly well for being done in one take, through the same Amp, vocally rigged through a reverb board, and finally recorded on my phone.

Stranger things have happened.

Why Don't You Do Right? [cover] (One Take Sessions)

An odd throw-away track (I thought) that later ended up on my misc compilation Album Cello Sears after several requests. Its short, and peculiar...shocker.

Listen closely, and you can hear the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland being sampled.

Falling Down The Rabbit - Hole (Cello Sears)

This spaced-out sounding track is one of the only full songs I'll be posting from this actual album. I was in a really calm and pleasant place, and I wanted to record something that, once it was mixed down, I would be able to listen to in the background without it taking too much attention away from whatever I might be doing at that time. Perfect chill background ambient music...essentially.

The entire song was written and recorded on the spot, took about 30 minutes to record, and consists only of the guitar, the keyboard, and two additional synth tracks. They were all recorded in one take, each.

It was a short night. Lol.
