This album covers a lot of sonic territory, and all of it is good, real good; from mantra-esque low end rumbles punctuated by bells, to the white-noise-to-harsh-squall sound of appliances…I think... There are a lot of sounds on this disc that have been put in interesting contexts that mask their true origin. There is no emphasis on a particular instrumentation, a large variety of gadgets have been used, both acoustic and electronic, and all with great skill and balance resulting in a record that instantly sucks you in with its aural novelties.

This to me is the ultimate music of place, sounding much like a preconceived and well orchestrated field recording of the entirety of America with its well thought out use of many naturalistic textures. From the roots music of Appalachia and the delta to the harsh mechanical sounds of the urban wasteland, all elements are perfectly crafted to create a cohesive collection of sound worship. 

Just get this one. It is kind of hard to properly describe how good this album is, but it would be next to impossible to dislike. If you get into Alan Lomax’s grittier Folkways recordings, Kites’ Peace Trials album, or the sound of your refrigerator you need this real bad. 9/10 -- Kevin Richards (17 December, 2008)
