I'm Sorry

For a genre that came into being more than 20 years ago, the original sounds of jungle and drum & bass from the mid 90s still have such an unbridled, raw energy that sounds so far ahead of its time, and I think still does. 

As a musician and producer, I found that dabbling in this genre suddenly opened creative doors that had otherwise been hidden. It was like working with a DAW for the first time having been in bands all of my teens and early 20s. 

I guess the sound of this track is reflective of where I am right now, expansive pads suggesting galactic depth, but sometimes drawing in claustrophobically, unintelligible vocal cuts, like someone talking in a dream occasionally coming into audible focus... and skittering, dusty breaks which sing from a time past and yet, to me, never more present. I wasn't old enough to appreciate the best years of jungle but hope that my life experience and the other music I'm into add something of meaning to the sound, and to the experiences of those who enjoy it.

A track I made for the Facebook group 'Jungle Beat Battles'. Each month or so the gauntlet is thrown down to make a track using a specific set of samples made available by the last winning producer. I made a track for the last round but didn't think it was quite up to scratch. 

'Divine Source' takes its title from the vocal sample which I took from a video about paganism and spirituality (very new age). The track is another second attempt; the first go was decent but maybe a little bit too frenetic. I thought I could do a better, more focused version.
