Hailing from Ghana, The Apagya Showband was formed by the legendary Ebo Taylor and Ambolley after they left ‘Uhuru Dance Band’. The group produced only a couple of singles.

‘Tamfo’ is a joyous, uptempo Afro-funk groover, laced with horns and highlife guitar lines.

‘Mumude’ is a fast paced, drum and percussion-heavy, folklore-based song from 1974. Originally released on Essiebons 7”.

Baba Commandant & The Mandingo Band hail from Ouagadougou, the capital of landlocked African nation Burkina Faso. Fans of modern afrobeat need to look no further. Influenced by the likes of Fela Kuti, King Sunny Adé and Moussa Doumbia, Baba Commandant plays an instrument associated with traditional Donso hunters, a six string harp called the donso n'goni. Largely reserved for traditional gatherings and celebrations, this is one of the rare times the instrument has been used in modern recordings. Baba Commandant, whose real name is Sanou Mamadou, merges his various inspirations on the album from Nigerian afrobeat to Malian blues to dub and even to some heavier punk influences.

Following up on the release of the band's 2014 album "Juguya", Paris-based Mawimbi, a French label and DJ crew who focus on Afro-influenced electronic music, are re-releasing one of the singles from the album, Wasso, with a fresh mixdown and several remixes as well. Our premiere today comes from Toulouse-based producer Mr. Boom (soundcloud) who gives us two different renditions of the original, the afro mix and the broken mix, the latter of which particularly caught our ear. Giving the cut a bit of a more modern, electronic twist, Mr. Boom chooses the grooviest parts of the original, stripping it down while at the same time adding his own percussion with a syncopated rhythm to the composition. The end result? A contemporary crossover tune that's bound to find its way into the record bags of many a DJ.

Welcome to the first chapter of the OZFERTI saga. Step into an unknown galaxy, where gravity is multi-dimensional and they don’t have Netflix ; where new gods are replacing the old idols and the ecosystems are being crushed by space-mining economy. Follow OZFERTI, the masked beatmaker, in his journey to the stars, in an album inspired by East-African music and partly produced and recorded in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. The 11 track album takes you through desertic landscapes and sci-fi atmospheres, with traditionnal rythm patterns and percussions being mixed with electronic synthesisers and live electric guitar.

Florian Doucet is a music veteran. Before dedicating to Ozferti entirely, he toured around the globe and in the studio with Afro-Colombian band LA CHIVA GANTIVA (Crammed Discs) and Afro-Portuguese band TERRAKOTA (Fazuma). He had a call for modern Ethiopian music, and in 2016 released the ADDIS ABOUMBAP EP, 11 tracksof EthioJazz and electronic landscapes. The record received critical acclaim and was widely broadcasted by underground DJ’s and Radios (DJ Mellow / LOW UP, BEAT CHRONIC, Radio Nova Paris) but also on big stations (KCRW Los Angeles, Worldwide FM, RINSE fm France). This was the beginning of the Ozferti project, an adventure wich would encapsulate Flo’s musical and visual arts skills. The music contains elements of Electronica, Jazz, Hip-hop and Bass music, while using the color and richness of East-African instruments and rythms. It is a space odyssey, depicting the story of a purple planet and a masked musician, a strange place that makes us reflect on our own world.
