The “Purgatory Interlude” piece was written in the middle of making the album and truly represents where my headspace was in the midst of creating it. This album did not come easy; during this time I had already dealt with several frustrations and mental/creative blocks regarding the album's current state and where I wanted it to go moving forward. Channeling these emotions in order to tap into each sin was extremely trying and left me very empty at certain points. In this piece, it depicts the vision of me being defeated and falling into patterns. The line that says, “So don’t tell me to lift my chin while I’m looking down at my destination,” is accepting the thought of going to Hell due to the carelessness of falling into bad habits and patterns; inherently knowing and accepting that the way you are is easier than doing the work to change.
