After two cassette releases for the likes of Tokyo's Solitude Solutions and Barcelona's Angoisse, Motion Ward is delighted to present the debut of Kouhei Fukuzumi's Ultrafog project on the vinyl format. "How Those Fires Burned That Are No Longer" weaves through sliding metal timbres, textured air abstractions and wistful mallet sequences. This record, like all of Kouhei's work, is a take on sound as a representation of memory. Light and translucent, each song aims for a temporal snapshot that will inevitably fade into the well of thoughts and experience.

MW004: Ultrafog, 'How Those Fires Burned That Are No Longer'

In the face of devastating violence, how are you responding?
I think deeply about the moment we’re in and am searching for a response that’s not blatant or overt, but more-so inviting the listener to contemplate their own mindset.
The music here is an expression, my response to surviving these traumatic, unpredictable times. Most of the new sounds came out of the experience of living in Berlin and traveling around Europe. 
As a black African existing and moving in predominantly white spaces, you are under continuous scrutiny and harassment. 
White supremacy and racism have a certain gradation of intimate terrorism, and the darker your skin the more endangered you are.
"Brâncuși sculpting Beyoncé in gold lamé" is a line from Mike Ladd’s song “Blonde Negress” from the album Negrophilia. 
The album was inspired by Petrine Archer-Straw’s book of the same name (with the subtitle “Avant-Garde Paris and Black Culture in the 1920s”). 
The book explores the Paris art world's embrace of black American and African culture — and its co- option of black art and culture, which played heavily into Art Deco, Cubism, jazz, etc. 
I read the book some years back, but I love how Mike Ladd warps it, drawing a long line between Beyonce and Brancusi, whose Sleeping Muse was inspired by African masks.

and will be released by Hundebiss Records in July 2018

Lamin Fofana is an electronic producer and artist. His instrumental electronic music contrasts the reality of our world with what's beyond and explores questions of movement, migration, alienation, and belonging. He is from Sierra Leone, lived in Guinea, United States, and currently located in Berlin.

​​DRUMS is the first of a series of compilations following the concept of signature sounds – an hommage to soundlibraries, a deconstruction of your favorite preset soundgroups. It is to be complemented by the later releases BELLS , VOICES and SLAPBASS.

​​DRUMS is featuring a proggy composition by Macadam Mambo´s EVA GEIST, a jacking hi hat inferno with agitating spanish lyrics by CIENFUEGOS, known thru his releases on L.I.E.S., a dancefloor drumsolo straight out of >Ireland by LUMIGRAPH, who was already featured on MMODEMMs MDM E box and should be known from his Opal Tapes and Mr. Saturday Night releases a few years ago. PEDER MANNERFELT delivers a trippy, drunk masterclass drumlesson, taking house apart with his "Dumb Drums".

"Ode to Mud" (Side A)

Following on from last year´s set of hallucinatory vignettes for Milan´s Haunter Records on "Jemi" and the dissection of the possible tearjerking sensibilities of self-help twitter bots on 'You'll Always Stay Beautiful' for Bristol´s NoCorner, @Broshuda glides on to casually deliver this glistening and equally heartfelt 7 Inch for Cologne based Imprint RDK Island.

On the A side, a reflection in the half light resonance of evening/dawn envelops the fractal heavily melodic core of 'Face2'. Floating in some ebulliently chilled out existence not that far, but still quite on its own trajectory, from some of Mouse On Mars most absorbing moments. An hypnagogic cityscape, brimming with lives, real and imagined.
On the flipside 'Voices' hypnotic melody-as-dream gives way to a smoldering state of aural unease, borderline anxiety creeping in, an "orchestra" of filtered, fading voices & realities. Gliding as a state unto itself, neither here nor there. This reality's what you make of it.

‘The album was written while researching and reading about the role that the US played in installing dictators in central and south America. The harsh and industrial sounds I used as a way to talk about what happens when the harsh reality of neo-liberalism takes over a country that could do very well without it.

I was reading and watching documentaries about Haiti and Cuba and trying to imagine what those countries would be without any western influence.

Following guest spots on compilations by Classical Trax and BAS, Warsaw-based Ku Ku delivers his most ambitious work to date.
Starting its life as a full-length album the "ESC" EP features 4 tracks and 3 remixes assembled from hours of material reshaped and condensed into a cohesive whole.
"Esc is the key I use when trying to "get out" and that is what I tried to do here. I made this EP during a time in my life when I was in a boring job feeling nothing interesting is happening. I wanted to create the most happy sounding japanese techno influenced music I could - to create an escape for myself. It's fake and kitschy in that way but at the same time honest because that escape was a genuine need of mine."
Our choice was "Pathotronic" which slows down the tempo of the release with its FSOL inspired big beat throwback.

But he wasn’t entirely satisfied by this and felt an urge to make space for music outside of clubs. So in 2020, he and friends DJ Wrestling, Jan Loup and Humtsi created Aïra (@airatoulouse), the Promised Land of his spiritual father, H. P.
