WILEY (REMIX) - THEE PROPHECY Ft. DJ Ms [INSTRUMENTAL]

In July 1984, Black Roots released their second album, The Front Line, on vinyl and cassette.

The title track of this album, ‘Frontline’, was the theme song for the BBC Television sitcom that ran for one series by the same name.  It is a story of 2 brothers who are constantly fighting like ‘cat and dog’ and the reason is that one is a police man and the other a dreadlocks man, both living together in the same house.  Their life styles are such opposites that they can never agree about anything.  And this clash of lifestyles is what informs the comedy that unfolds.

Unfortunately it is not deemed a success and it does not make it past that the first series of 6 episodes for a longer run.  However, it is a positive experience for Black Roots as it introduces the band to a wider audience and affords the opportunity to release and promote another album release.

Now on 15th July 2014, almost 30 years to the day since it was first released, Nubian Records, is releasing this set as part its program of uploading and making its back catalogue available for download.

In addition to the original classic tracks that originally made up this album, like ‘War’, ‘Struggling’ and ‘Blackheart Man’, Nubian have added 2 bonus tracks, ‘Chanting For Freedom’ and’ Confusion’.  Although these 2 tracks were originally released on 12” vinyl in 1981, as the follow up to the ‘Bristol Rock EP’ they never featured on any of the early albums.

The surface and depth of water, its playfulness and danger, its frozen and flowing forms, water is never still, always in motion. It is fragile, sensitive to even the slightest environmental changes, yet simultaneously powerful and dangerous. For this recording, I drew inspiration from Laozi’s Dao De Jing, particularly the concept of “The highest good is like water” (上善若水). The nature of water—benefiting all things without contention—deeply resonates with me. Water can softly wear down stone yet transform into sharp ice, and its mutable qualities have shaped how sound evolves in this recording.

On a deeper level, this philosophy influences how I approach life: facing its highs and lows with the softness and resilience of water, and embracing the unknown with quiet strength. I hope this piece resonates with you as much as it did with me during its creation.

"Sikknastafari Slash Crasstafari is a gnarled patchwork of cheapo suitcase electronics, primitive beats and throbbing energy, like a Dr Moreau genetic splicing of early hiphop and Wolf Eyes’ most fist-pumping moments.
Over this, Pyn spits out heavily distorted vocals that veer from a bratty, amphetamine sneer to a detached, robotic drawl (effectively reiterating the shared origins of punk’s refusenik fury and New Wave’s glazed futurism). 
Lyrically, Pyn presents a word-perfect snapshot of adolescent alienation and bored nihilism. “I Can Tell” feels like lethargic comedown paranoia: “I can tell you’re not all right/I can see it in your eyes/You no longer feel alive/You no longer look alive.”
And “Tent In A Babylon” is an anthem of surly dropout apathy: “You see that tent there/My nightstent there/My nights.
Mixed in with this is a lyrical strand exploring hollow-eyed psychosis. 
“With A Drill” is a paean to the benefits of self-trepanation (“When the pressure gets released/You will find eternal peace”), which, matched by stark Industrial beats, feels like the mockingly counterproductive advice you might expect from William Bennett of Whitehouse.

Griffin Pyn is probably very far from being the mentally unstable sociopath responsible for Sewn Leather’s sick fiction. But it sounds like he’s having a lot of fun pretending."
