MICHAELBRAILEY presents a shrine to 'Southland Tales', the critically-panned sophomore epic from Donnie Darko-director Richard Kelly. The voices of Hollywood 00s stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Justin Timberlake, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Seann William Scott can be heard prophesying on the state of things in a world where porn is on TV, Iraq war veterans have amnesia, guns can bend around corners and quantum teleportation is top news. Leaning heavily on the film's Moby-led soundtrack this unusual mix scans, etches and chips away at the film's runtime to unearth what meaning or emotion lies beneath its strangely salacious surface.

Axine M is the moniker of Maxine de las Pozas, a music artist residing in Brooklyn, NY. The Ancient Greek Axenos, or "inhospitable place," is a name for the Black Sea before nautical technology was advanced enough to safely traverse the water. Axine M is a vessel for musical inquiries and creative impulses across multiple genres and sentiments, carving out a space for itself against the grain of the dystopian imaginary. 

A recent self-released tape, USUSUSESESERERER (pronounced "user"), is a songwriterly exploration of interpersonal relationships under late-capitalism. Axine has published tapes with Summer Isle and Embalming Lately, a label she co-founded. As a DJ, Axine has mixed for c-, BIZAARBAZAAR, DUST, Hong Kong Community Radio, and The Lot Radio, among others. Maxine holds a master's degree in Music Technology from NYU Steinhardt, where she focused on the design of novel music controllers for live performance. Versions of her thesis were published in the proceedings of New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME 2020) and International Computer Music Conference (ICMC 2021). Maxine was an active participant and sound engineer at Chaos Computer. She works as an Audiovisual Technician.

JAWS “Object Dom”

OBJECT DOM, the third full length from Los Angeles JAWS, explores the ambiguous terrain of spirituality and self-image within the rip-current info stream of our modern condition.  With slippery technologies opening void portals into endless riffs on the Narcissus myth, the confession experience, the orgasm, the private concert, where does value reside?  Has it abstracted into the ephemera of experience or further calcified into the defined contours of the object?  OBJECT DOM attempts to trace the movement of value through this inexact landscape.
Sonically the album looks to Baltimore Club and its endless variations on the Sing Sing break as both inspiration and as a metaphor for the informational hall of mirrors we inhabit, where the theme itself is subsumed within the oceanic variations there of.  Staying true to the vocal-centered tenets which have always anchored the project (and from which it derives its namesake), the exquisite skeleton of Bmore Club is reimagined into a variety of situations into which the vocalist must navigate.  On occasion, the vocalist removes himself entirely, or barely enters the frame, giving space to a more luxuriated production environment than has been present on previous JAWS records; an environment that embraces the kaleidoscopic sonic pallet we have inherited in our gloomy bargain with digital technology.
