ZamZam 86 sees the return of Adam Prescott alongside the legend Iration Steppas AKA Mark Iration. 

Stomping on from recent releases on Conscious Sounds and Lion Charge, we’re happy to have Reggae Roast boss Mr. Prescott back for the first time since his hit “Fear” with Macka B all the way back in 2017. And it has to be said that we couldn’t be more thrilled to finally be working with Mark on vinyl, whose deep history in Leeds, crushing sound system, unmatched dynamism in the dance, and revered status in the global dub community can’t be overstated- respect due!! Coming off of a serious reissue campaign and epic documentary in collaboration with Dubquake Records, this is Iration Steppas first new music on vinyl since an extremely limited 7” on Dub-Stuy 5 years ago. 

Of their history together Adam says, "I always send Mark my tracks - sometimes he wants cuts or wants to do a remix, and this time he voiced me a dubplate on the riddim and did loads of mixes. Mark was one of the reasons I make music at all, after going to his Subdub nights in Leeds back in the early 2000’s. He's been a great inspiration throughout my career, always offering guidance on my productions and letting me know which ones have been going down well at sessions… So it’s a big milestone for me to work with him on a vinyl release."

"Acid Storm” is Mark’s brutalist version of a 135 bpm steppers called “The Storm” that Adam built for a digital-only release on Hold Tight Records. The Iration method is on full display with a mean synth melody, mad delay work, and phasing and filtering all elements of the mix in real time. On the flip, the second piece of the riddim, the “Year 3000 Style” mix is a more stripped affair, pushing the drums and percussion harder, then diving into reverb depths unplumbed on the A side. Push these no-holds-barred dubplate-style sides into the red and these mixes will transport you into the reckless abandon and spiritual fervor of an Irations Steppas Sound System session for real.

A video remix journey through the history of sampling taking in some of the most noted breaks and riffs of the decades. A chronological journey from the Beatles’ use of the Mellotron in the 60s  to the sample dense hiphop and dance music of the 80s and 90s. Each break is represented by a vibrating vinyl soundwave exploding into various tracks that sampled it, each re-use another chapter in the modern narrative.

A Brief History of Sampling

Liberation Riddim is the third release on Hundred Years and is a production from Reggae Roast heavyweight Adam Prescott, who is joined on the release by Cornel Campbell, Donovan Kingjay, Galak Spiritual & Papa B. The track bridges the gap between classic roots, dub from the echo chamber and driving modern steppas. The first vocal cut from the original Gorgon himself, Mr. Cornel Campbell blends Adam's tough original with Cornel's flawlessly sweet vocals to create 'Dem A Bawl', in which the driving deep bass line is perfectly accentuated by the flawless melodies and delays to provide us with an unmistakable and instantly recognisable take on modern roots at it's finest. Next cut see's Donovan Kingjay take to the booth for 'Statistic', an assured statement on the current social climate, providing a message of hope and unification, delivered powerfully in Donovan's unmistakable style. The final vocal version comes from Galak Spiritual entitled ‘Ancestors’, and is a tribute to his mixed blood, spreading a powerful message of love and acceptance. Rounding off the record is a powerful horns cut from Papa B, a saxophonist on his first instrumental outing since the anthemic 'Easton' by onlyjoe.

The celebration of the epic Paul Sitter album &ndash; Hip-Hop Delivery continues as a new group of the electronic funk scene finest joins forces for another collection of remixes. On vol. 2 we got a variety of remixers each doing their thing on the classic hip hop material from Paul Sitter and the long lineup of rappers and vocalists.
Starting off with the label owner BadboE giving his signature funky treatment to the timeless Global Chemistry featuring Craig G. Followed by discObeta bouncing up the epic B-Boy Impressions. Omegaman is back in the production chair and BBP were lucky enough to get him to do a classy nu funk remix of the Wild Things jam.
Pecoe gets to work on King of The Rock giving it his funky twist while Crash Party give that same track a big beat tempo switching remix. Dal Platinum get busy with a neat groovy remix of the Dr Syntax featuring It&rsquo;s On Like That while The Fritz takes a downtempo approach to the Go Move track featuring the awesome Andy Cooper.

Tom van Zeytveld AKA Phuture-T is well known to followers of hard-edged dubwise jungle from his stellar releases on labels including Alphacut, 45Seven, and Eastern Promise Audio. In a landscape of similar-sounding steppers, Zeytveld reveals his Emperor T alias on his first outing for ZamZam, bringing a welcome experimental sensibility to the worldwide steppers arena, while keeping sound system priorities and dancefloor imperatives firmly in view.  

"Macka Step Dub" is a pounding 128 bpm killer that opens with congas, skanks, and a minimal guitar lick, but quickly ramps up the energy with a pounding kick, sick, buzzing sine wave bass, clattering percussion and sirens,  building the tension to a massive breakdown.  When the smoke clears, magisterial horns and insistent skanks lead the way as the riddim rebuilds, the tape echo spools out, and the dance forwards on.

"Mek It Run Dub" is cut from the same sonic cloth but faster, and tweaking the template with a more organic bass sound, flanged skanks, and stark shocks from the spring reverb.  With militant horns echoing from deep down the Well over a pummeling kick and bass attack, this one is a serious threat to a soundboy.  Both tunes were mixed and dubbed out at Phuture-Studios in Amsterdam, mastered and cut by the one Lewis at Star Delta Mastering in Devon.

As for our first release of 2020, we have a delicious blend of dubtechno and dub from the 140 beast himself, @breezdubstep! 
For this run, we're shifting it up a gear, and bringing you a limited run of 30 copies, cut by hand by the dub-cutting master Henry Bainbridge at Dubstudio, onto 10" transparent plates!

A - Stepping Richness
Soft, yet tuff at the same time, "Stepping Richness" is a gloomy and deep cut, clocking in at 140bpm. With a classic and thought-provoking quote from the great Bob Marley, this track as for sure a late-night banger!

B - Puff Dub
A little more true to the dubtechno and 'steppa' sound, Breez brings us another stomper, with a bassline catchy enough to leave you humming for days. This one at 125bpm, this one is for those who's skank is a little slower! ;)
