 I took some time to try and help out my old neighborhood and give back with community service.  During that hiatus, I got a chance to grow, live, and record the next phase of my music, poetry and the visual art around this work with the collab with Toledo photographer Jay Dickerson.  Also during that time a lot has happened in our country and the world abroad that as an artist, I needed to speak to.

"Remember to Smile" is born out of this next phase, which is not just Hiphop for me, but spoken word as well.  However you feel about it, this makes a good discussion piece. It's meant to be such.

HuntorPrey - Remember To Smile

You may recognize Ohio artist HuntorPrey from his 2013 debut, “The Motion Sound Picture”, a breakthrough project filled with cinematic stories of blue collar living inspired by his time living in Cincinnati as well as native Toledo, Ohio. Since the release, not only has Hunter carved a name for himself in the midwest live performance and slam circuits, he’s become an inspiring and necessary voice and activist in his local community; from assisting in support to the Flint Water Crisis to speaking at local BLM protests. On December 16th, HuntorPrey will return to his craft with the release of his newest project, the riveting “Running Man” EP, produced entirely by Ill Poetic, via Definition Music.


“This EP is an intimate view of the city I grew up in (Toledo) and the community that raised me, The Junction. From there, the record branches out to the macro issues we’ve been facing as a (people/country/etc) these past few years. I want this project to feel closer to the listener. So it’s very lyric-centered. The music is stripped down and the scope is a mix of both hip-hop and spoken word.”

Currently, HuntorPrey is at deep at work on his newest full-length album "Hy-Definition", a project filled with penetrating lyricism and a truly unique soundbed that collages 80's-inspired melodies, symphonic movie scores, progressive hip-hop, industrial rock, and spoken word.

Today, Huntorprey opens the new year with a warm-up single, "Close Encounters”; a song that studies how reality and fantasy build perception and gives a sneak peek into the vibe of his new album:

“The track is really inspiring in a lot of ways. On a surface level, it reminded me of my childhood and the influences that made me an artist today. So I wrote a song hoping to give my own flare and perspective to the music created. On a deeper level, it also asks  questions about how things shape our reality. Whether it’s media, economy, culture, neighborhood, or childhood nostalgia, who or what shapes the world for you? What really influences someone? And do they even recognize they are being influenced? This was just a fun song to make.  It’s always cool to combine all of these influences and just spit. I hope people like it as much as I liked making it.”
