Casting its net far and wide, from Australia to Finland, via the UK and Tunisia, One Eye Witness’ maiden VA drop gathers a quartet of the international producers who’ve come to pique our interest in recent months.

Starting with Tunis-based up-and-comer HearThug, who steps up with “Alien All Too Alien” - a steadily pulsatory, 303-marinated dasher interlarded with flocks of pugnacious talk box stabs and rattling drums, making it a proper DJ-friendly weapon for any hour of the day. Helsinki’s Jeku follows up with the tribal acid churner ‘Aftermath’, laying down a sleek, sub-heavy earworm prepped on submerging systems from under the deepest layers of the spectrum with its fluttering melody, sturdy basswork and FX-laden synthesis.

Flip the coin over and here goes London-based groove manipulator Sohrab, entering the melee with ‘Ataraxia’ - a hypnotic slice of stealth mode, Gaussian-blurred dub techno that does exactly what’s written on the tin. The final number ’Surrender’ comes courtesy of rising Sydney-based producer Cousin, who treats us to a tripped-out ethereal riddim making the rounds betwixt the vaporous serenity of ambient and deep dub vibrations. Just in time for summer Maai Records prepares its fifth outing on the label, which comes from Barcelona-based beat-maker but foremost artist Vince Void exploring the depths of electronic music's diversity on his latest five-tracker on Lis Sarroca's label. Coming with four original tracks and a remix from Mario Liberti for the EP's title track Explorer Vince Void creates another momentum of his creative work  after delivering his audience a sneak peak into his (mind)-set with several contributions to Pau Roses and Adria's Cupula Recordings. The Vision, the B1 of Void's Explorer EP, is an intriguing heavily hitting minimalistic-beast, which impresses through its diverse deep chords as well as the Acid-ish note as booth add a tingling touch to the lush bassline perfectly complementing each other.

London’s Kylin Tyce teams up with the Tessellate crew to release four slick, 2-step tracks including a remix from Moodswing label boss Perception. London based Kylin Tyce is a new artist on the circuit with an ear for ambient soundscapes, rolling beats and intricate percussion. His sound takes inspiration from the realms of early UK Garage paired with forward-thinking House & Techno which can be heard on his releases on labels such as Oldivibes, PIV and Render. You can either find Kylin behind the counter at the London record shop Phonica or playing regularly at clubs in and around the capital where he aims to take you on a journey through both old and new realms of electronic music whilst providing a continuous vibe to the dance floor. ‘Do Your Thing’ sees him join the London based event series and record label Tessellate following releases from artists such as T. Jacques, Alex Pervukhin, Firmin and Aleksandir. ‘Do Your Thing’ kicks things off with vibrant, steppy percussion with shimmering bass grooves and layered pads underneath before ‘Further South’ lays focus on colourful synth waves, luscious vibrations through rolling low frequencies and a sultry sax line. On the flip, ‘Thinkin’ fuses nostalgic, stripped back, UKG stylings with uplifting keys, jubilant tones and an inviting vocal line. London label Tessellate drops a VA release which includes four club-ready cuts from Firmin, Karaba, Aiden Francis and Les Ondes.

'Teamwork’ is the first in Tessellate’s series of VAs which will aim to have a musical thread running through each release with this inaugural one focusing on the proggy side of breaky electro. This release comes off the back of four Tessellate outings in 2020 from T. Jacques, Kylin Tyce, Armless Kid and label bosses The Trip, which picked up support from the likes of Peach, Barely Legal, Cinthie and many more.

Firmin is a Berlin-based artist with two EPs out on Tessellate and kicks off the pack with ‘But On Second Thoughts, Perhaps I Will’ which lays focus on skippy rhythms, sunshine soaked pads and pulsing bass rolls before French producer Karaba who has previously released on T. Jacques’ Nuances de Nuit label follows with ‘Vice Versa’ offering up syncopated breaks-tinged percussion, otherworldly cosmic melodies and elastic acid squelches holding your focus throughout.

On the flip, Manchester’s Aiden Francis delivers the vibrant house track ‘Cloud Generator’ featuring skippy, energetic drums, resolute fx which develops wonderfully above the uplifting, spiralling synths while Paris-based producer Les Ondes rounds off the EP with ‘Phase One’ as the celestial atmospheres come to full force on this spiralling electro cut.
