Hedchef and Tom Place announce a new collaborative record label and science-fiction world.

Mainstays of broken-beat techno and bass-driven electro Hedchef and Tom Place have launched a new label, named Hedplace Synthetics, Inc., to explore deeper, groove-focused sounds drawing from dub techno, tech house and dubstep.

The imprint will initially only be releasing the two producers’ own work, accompanied by an ever-growing fictional world of hazardous chemicals, scientific experiments and shady corporate dealings, brought to life by Hedchef’s brother and real-life engineer Titus L.

Hedplace Synthetics’ inaugural release ‘Monitor, Measure, Manipulate’ consists of three Hedchef and Tom Place collaborations. From the synthy and percussive opener ‘Further Into The Labyrinth’ through steppy rhythms and Detroit stabs on ‘Chord Chaser’, to fire alarm intensity on closer ‘Exosphere’, the duo weave together sounds from across the dance music spectrum whilst maintaining the distinctive, gritty sonic signature they’ve established on previous releases for labels including SPE:C, Unknown To The Unknown, Scuffed Recordings, EC2A and International Chrome. Titus L’s visual universe introduces us to the Hedplace Synthetics factory, where industrial machinery and power tools jerk and whirr to the rhythm of the tracks - or perhaps creating the very rhythms themselves?
