Their sound is a spectacular electro-traditional mix.  With only rudimentary amplification and handmade instruments they have managed to  create otherworldly music for over 40 years.

They have collaborated with the likes of Björk and Herbie Hancock.

I didn’t think this song was going to be on the EP and then it ended up becoming, in many ways, its anchor. I had written it, after seeing “A Streetcar Named Desire” at Saint Ann’s Warehouse, and performed it a few times, but I wasn’t quite sure how I wanted to record it. Then November 8th passed and the line between madness and agony and empathy became more blurry than it had been even during the bloody summer in which it had was created. In those bleak days following the election I went to the studio each day and tried to give the blunt complexity of fear and grief I was experiencing to this song. The recording also contains a lot of tears for Leonard Cohen.

Early passages of ambience transform into raw improvisation as Korwar's newly-formed UPAJ Collective bring us a 12-minute epic with a particularly arresting solo halfway through from percussionist BC Manjunath..

'Eastern music', much like the term "African music' are still ubiquitous and are indicative of how the UK sees, hears and consumes a lot of music that is from afar.  This album (and it's title - My East Is Your West) attempts to question notions of what and where 'East' and 'West' is, in the disturbingly common and casual use of these terms whilst talking about music and bringing together both jazz and Indian classical music with a shift in the power dynamic.” Sarathy Korwar
