Last year we found ourselves writing darker songs than we'd ever explored before. "Ancient One" is one of them - a sort that sonically and lyrically explores the primitive human and the extent that we're still influenced by those primal parts of ourselves. This is our fourth single from our LP, "Full-On Monet," out 1/22/22.

Two songs we've had in the chamber for a while. Danny and I recorded most of "Getty" over a cold November weekend at some AirBnB house in Nashville. Though Danny wouldn't say it, I suspect that "Phoenix" might be about the awkward and exciting process of learning how to write songs with somebody new. I didn't write the lyrics, but I like to think it's sort of about the process of collaborating - the joys and fears of the whole thing.

We've written a number of NBA/OKC related songs, including a song about when Serge went down in the Western Conference Finals. Neither of these songs are about the NBA. However, the GOAT diction makes it into one of Danny's songs here. I'm not sure who the GOAT is in this song, though. "Some Surf" was one of the five songs we recorded - at least in part - last November in Nashville, and I'm really happy we shaped it up into publishable form.

ABOUT THE SONG: Danny and I are constantly buying gear. I bought this tiny 5w Kay amp off Ebay, and to my surprise the amp had this massive crunchy guitar sound. So we started writing some songs that tried to tap into our nostalgic middle school pop punk days. We matched it up with the Alesis HR-16, the New Order drum sound. I sorta feel like this song took us in a new direction from 'Golden Year,' still fun but does the summery feel in a new way.
