So I was originally gonna put this as part of a mini series I’m planning on starting to get small videos of fun ideas out quicker, but this ended up being too good to put in a mini series.

On February 20th, Stephen and Mallory Georg's cat Sagan passed away. Having followed the vlog for about 4 or 5 years, this hit me pretty hard, and I can't possibly imagine how terrible it made Stephen and Mal feel having taken care of him for even longer than I had even been watching. This video is just meant to stand as my small contribution to letting the world know how much this cat meant to the StephenVlog community, and I hope that Stephen and Mal make it through this healthy and okay.

Baguette Bop

Woo! So, this has been THE focus of the past few weeks for me, and I put a lot of effort into this one! By far my favourite cover to make yet! I have to say though, I’m a little sad that I might have to send my alto sax back to my school since I’ve been “borrowing” it since March. Still, I guess that means I’m gonna have to make the most of my time with it! Although that also leads me to the “album cover” I drew for this. That doesn’t mean I’m gonna actually make a full album. It’s just a fun joke picture. I might use it again, but again, that doesn’t mean I’m gonna make it a full thing.

I still have tons to talk about with this one, since I hid a bunch of references to various other great swing songs around in this one. Well, I say “hid”, but it’s more like “threw a million of them at you at the end”. Good luck finding them all! 
Here’s a list if you’re interested:
1. The bass at the very beginning plays the beginning to Larry Neeck’s Swing Machine...which may have also been where I stole the whole drum part from
2. The start of the chaotic frenzy of references at the end starts with a quick nod to Larry Neeck’s Horns+Rhythm=Swing
3. Immediately after, there’s a call and response taken from Sonic Mania’s Studiopolis Zone
4. Then just before the chaos really starts, the sax in the left ear plays Nimbasa City’s thème from Pokémon Black and White which continues to the end
5. Then the trumpets come back in to play the main melody to Larry Neeck’s Swing Machine
6. The trumpets also play a later part of Studiopolis while the right ear sax keeps going from the call and response
7. The right ear trumpet joins in for the last little bit of Nimbasa City

You Will Know Our Names

So now that I’m moving on from Xenoblade covers for now, I wanted to play a few songs from games I’ve finished while stuck inside for the past few months. One of those games just so happened to be Kirby Mass Attack, which wasn’t amazing, but I still enjoyed it a lot! Of course, seeing Daroach and suddenly realizing that what was playing was a great bossa style arrangement of the Squeak Squad theme (which is one of my favourite Kirby songs) was really cool, and I instantly knew I wanted to cover it! Then after finally getting around to recording it, I started experimenting with where I point the trumpet for the mic, and when I heard the recording turn out like this, my mind was blown since this is just how I’ve wanted it to sound from the beginning! That got me so excited that I went and immediately recorded videos for the rest of the month all in that one day, which also means these next few covers are gonna be of pretty short songs, so sorry about that. Anyways, this one video was the source of quite a few exciting things, so I hope you enjoy it!

Today is me and my girlfriend’s first dating anniversary, so I thought I’d celebrate with this cover, since on that date a year ago, we watched Castle in the Sky together! I remember being very awkward and sitting a different couch from her the whole time, but obviously things have got better since. The day is...and interesting one to look back on to say the least.

Here’s one of may favourite credits themes! I actually finally beat Luigi’s Mansion for my first time a few months ago, and I loved it! I’ve always called it the game that got me into video games when I was little thanks to Chuggaaconroy’s let’s play, and I’m glad to have finally beat it! So of course at the thought of doing something from a spoopy game, my mind immediately went to this, and it’s fun, funky tune. I’m pretty happy with this, so I hope you enjoy!

Luigi’s Mansion - Credits (Trumpet Cover)

I just recently finished watching through all of Adventure Time, and it was really fun! So fun in fact that I spent a good week or two just learning a bunch of songs from the show, so I might be doing this for a bit...or not who knows. I’ll be honest, when I started watching, I didn’t think the songs would stay with me like they have. I went into the series only remembering Baby Fin singing and Bacon Pancakes so I think that outlines what my expectations were at the beginning. 
Also the finale was...weird. But still, this song is still really great, and I had fun making this! 
On another note, the first quadmester of school for us is over already, so I thought I'd leave off with something nice. I've finally gotten around to beating a bunch of games I've been getting through for the past few months so I might want to cover some of those soon too!

Time Adventure

So for the uninitiated, this might take some explaining. If you have the time, definitely check out Nick Robinson’s video, since it explains so much better than I will:

If you want the TLDR, this guy Nick Robinson found out about this incredibly rare DS game that was made by McDonald’s Japan to train their employees, and he went through A WHOLE LOT of trouble just to get one of the few copies that had surfaced. He recently released the ROM online so anyone can play it, and for the sake of game preservation...so of course I listened to the soundtrack.

Believe it or not, this game has an AMAZING soundtrack for a game that was only meant to be seen by McDonald’s Japan employees. After listening to it for a whole day, I finally decided I’d cover some of it. 

The recording process was actually amazingly quick for how much there was to this cover. I’m really glad with how it turned out, so I hope you enjoy!

A Night To Study / SOC Guide

So my girlfriend just started playing through the Layton games and has been telling me all about it...things like this scene! I honestly had no idea the Layton games were so crazy, so when she told me about how he made a heckin machine gun out of a slot machine, I really wanted to go back and play them too! Hopefully I get around to that soon. 
Anyways, I thought I’d cover something from the game, and this scene did have some really smooth music, so I made this! I hope you enjoy!

Hey, so it's been a whole year since I challenged myself to do nearly weekly video game music covers, and after it all, here's this little remake to celebrate! For something that started with me experimenting, and for something I called "some small trumpet practice", this has really become one of the best decisions I'll ever make. These videos have been so much fun to make, and although they don't get many views, to be able to see this massive list of videos each with their own long and crazy story makes all the effort worth it. 

I also just had my birthday recently which, I should add, was spent dropping, and trying to fix my iPad that now won't start up. The same iPad I've used to record every one of my other videos, so to pay tribute to the device that powered all that work, I let it - sitting on the same restoration screen its stayed on for the last few days - cameo in a video for once. o7

Other than that, I also just got my first proper audio recording setup, which means my trumpet can be heard in...

and since my iPad's gone, I guess I'll have to get used to recording and mixing with this now.

8PM Year In

So here's my concept for an original video game! This started as work on a music demo, and then turned into the focus of a tech course project, so here's everything! 
The basic idea behind the game itself would be that you're a Colonaut, and explorer of fallen colonies. Each level would have you explore another dead or abandoned colony in order to investigate what happened to it, and whether it has gone extinct or will get a chance to live on.
The main idea behind this soundtrack concept was that the music would never stop for anything, which means not for loading screens or even to swap between area themes, so I created this endless bass loop to tie everything together.
I also created leitmotifs for life (which goes up three notes), and death (going down three notes). I used it in too many ways to describe, so I'll let you find them yourself. If you're interested enough, I'll add a document with everything I put into it here soon.

So it's been a while since the last upload! A lot's happened so I won't go over all of it here, but I did just graduate from High School! 
Anyways, Stephen Georg had recently announced that he would be cutting his hair for the first time in about a year and a half. He always used to do something special for his haircuts like make the Haircut Haikus or Haircut Songs, but this time he put it out to his fans to make a whole album of songs for this one, so I knew I had to try it! 
Having made a song parody for them about two years ago, I was really excited to try my hand at lyric writing again. I know I didn't have to make a whole song since they're just using a clip, but I really wanted to, and I'm really happy with the result! I got the idea after looking through some of the old haircut haikus. The lyrics were really fun to write because I just tried to make them as ridiculous as possible haha!
Also, the song needed to be based on one from the YouTube free audio library, so I ended up using "Log Cabin" by Silent Partner which can be found here:

This is a sort of jazz ballad version of National Park from Pokémon Gold/Silver. This was heavily inspired by Alan Baylock's arrangement of What a Wonderful World, since I had just put together a virtual performance of it for our high school graduation, and knew it (mostly) inside out. I you're interested, I recommend giving that arrangement a listen. I transferred it's 12/8 groove into National Park, which was sometimes a bit of a struggle to translate a melody that wasn't meant for triplet feel, but I like to think I pulled it off. 
Anyways, I also made this hoping to fuse together parts of both the original, and the remake arrangements of National Park. The bass lines were definitely made to resemble the bassline from the original, while the way it continues in the bass guitar in the first section at the ends of the bars resembles the remake. I also wanted to include the piano solo from the remake, but I didn't want to have the pressure of starting with it, so I put it at the end. Also after that solo, is a small reference to the melody of Twinleaf Town which is also one of my favorite Pokémon tracks, and has always been the sound of "home" to me, so I really wanted that to wrap this all up.

Stroll In A Ball Park

This thing has been my "little" passion project for the past week, so I hope you enjoy!

This is "My Ultimate Mains", a Smash Bros. medley where each part represents a character I've called my main in the years of playing!

The Smash series has meant a lot to me for many years now, from playing Brawl when I was little, to getting really competitive in Sm4sh, and really enjoying my time with Ultimate, it's bittersweet to see it come to a close, so I felt like I needed to make this as my "thank you" to Sakurai for putting this amazing series together time and time again...and I really hope he takes a good break haha! This series got me into a lot of the games I enjoy today, so I have it to thank for that.

As a little celebration after Sora's reveal, I shifted a lot of my effort into getting this done. This has been a nice nostalgic look through my history of playing! As an extra note, the amount of time I spent on any character is actually representative of how long I spent playing them...which makes me feel sorry for Ike and Roy, and is hilarious as you can see just how much more I've played Shulk.
