Proud to present the 16th edition of The Hydration Mix Series! This is our monthly liquid Drum & Bass series rotated by some of the west coasts slickest selektahs including DJ Surgeon, Willisist, Erski, Akela, Reflektor, Lasu and myself. This mix is a full spectrum collecton of some of my favorite tracks I've been diggin over the past year. Starting off smooth and jazzy and ending off dark and dirty, I tried to include a bit of each style of Drum & Bass that I love. Really stoked how it turned out and I hope all you heads can dig it!

Working on this during a time of such general unrest was more challenging than usual. With politics and the climate strike and the opioid crisis and so much wrong in the world, it felt false trying to force these lovely, lush sounds out. After a few days of frustration, I stopped picturing a beautiful blue sky sunny day, and settled into a more overcast, warm rain melancholy view. I also slowed it down, and then started feeling the light beams creeping into this dark cave.
Have a coffee. Look to the horizon. Drift away.

Drifting between melancholy moments, bouts of longing, waves of bliss, and periods of perseverance, I think I’ve captured what happiness feels like as an adult. Not pure joy, but a balance between satisfaction and letting go. There’s light at the end of the tunnel, but even the best moments also pass. The cycle continues.

RoughSoul Mixtape #5

Back in 99 (when my dj/mc name was Double)the Tribe Called Quest Anthology CD came out, and it was only a single disc, missing so many of my fav's. I decided to make my own mega mix of all Tribe. It was in my days of mix tapes on cassette, so there's a side 1 and side 2.  For a fun twist I also added about 100 samples and sound fx and little extras.
This was really my first real studio mix and project as a dj other than mixing simply on the fly, and I love that I still love it.
RIP Phife, your work will live on for eternity.
