Rotterdam based producer DJ Crisps follows up releases on Riz La Teef’s ‘South London Pressing’ and Bristol UKG label Time Is Now with three original dubs that blur the lines between garage, hardcore and breakbeat.

Crisps has a knack for breaks (see Freedom with Ell Murphy). Luvin You walks the tightrope of rough and smooth; it’s chipmunk vocals, ethereal atmospherics and nostalgic samples creating a plethora of heads down and hug-in-the-rave moments.

It’s A Dark Day is a tale of anxiety. Beginning with soft, uplifting chords it begins optimistically before bassy swells of darkness surface amongst spooked-out vocals and huge wubs. Music Is My Life sees Crisps return to garage territory with a soulful stepper that evolves into a dutty, no phones allowed affair.

Rounding off the record is a remix of Music Is My Life from standout producer Mani Festo following a wicked release on Sneaker Social Club. He delivers a typically transportative, perception-altering cut of emotionally-stirring breaks that showcases the artist's infatuation with the tension between futurism and tradition.

I wrote the main loop for this completely trashed, at 3am after a regular DJ gig at the Velvet Hookah, on Tommy Scott's old frankenstein PC using Reason 2. The voice ("my muse") is a sample of my friend Clay Roper.

On the abandoned playground, only the fence neon still flickers. Someone carved 6 / 14 / 161 into the wire. The city doesn’t sleep—it counts: a broken kick like boots in gravel, the snare laying down law on 2/4. Two 303s speak in turn—one low and stubborn, one sharp and toxic—like sirens through steel bays. No nostalgia, only forward drive; a red slash on the ground points one way. At bar 129 the breath stalls, then everything drops back into the dark.

Firing straight outta the heart of Belgium comes a long awaited batch of euphoric, internet-curdled club missiles from Supreems.

Having been sat marinating on Youtube channels and Soundcloud streams alike for a good 24 months, al three tracks have taken on even more pertinence and depth, coming at the end of a fractured and startled year of world events.

Diving straight in, Untitled is a siren-sounded race into the heavily shadowed inner sanctum of a dark, skyscraper plagued city. All crushed drum work and soaring, burned-out Juno lines. 

Flipping over, PGesus wraps stepped 'n' skittering electro drums around a dusty, processed core of punctured acid and cascading glacial synth melodies. Like slowly melting ice on a pulsating warm body.

And lastly an ode to the love we lost. A slow-building euphoric house excursion in the shape of Us Together. An ever-lasting memory, or a dream, or maybe both, tied together by a forever nostalgia and retained in the mind and heart until the embers and the lights have gently gone out.
