Moscow producer Alexey Devyanin, who records as Pixelord, is one of the founders of the Hyperboloid Records. He is releasing his new album, a turning point for the entire course of the label. Alexey continues the unique sound tradition of his label and the entire Russian electronic scene, a tradition that he himself once created. At the same time, he breaks off this tradition and creates a new one.

Pixelord's insane new album "99%" is a mixture of exciting new music that is difficult to frame by genre, which meets nostalgia for classic IDM, breakbeat and trance music. The album brings the tension of the artist's earlier releases to a glorious conclusion and almost to perfection — literally 1% missing.

Remember how you downloaded something from the old Internet from the distant past, but it tended to freeze at the last moment at the last one percent? It's the same with this album. It plunges into nostalgic sounds of electronic music of the past, makes sense in the present and takes this legacy with it into the world of the future, pushes its way through mistakes and bugs.

Over the past ten years, Pixelord has developed its own unique musical style, which is closely related to the sound of the Hyperboloid records, and which is inspired by artists such as Bicep, EPROM, Mu-ziq, Lorn and others. "99%" is a complex love note for finding new sound, formed in Pixelord's interdisciplinary practice.

Great sequels take time. Think about Terminator 2, Before Sunset or Return to Oz. They all surpassed the originals – which were great in their own right – but required years of reflection and hard work on the part of the creators. Damscray understands this. His previous EP for Hyperboloid, Make Me Juke, was released ten years ago. Its bursts of energy are still fascinating today but it remains, in some senses, a straightforward footwork record.

Make Dem Rhythm marks the opening of a new chapter for Damscray, and is one of his first releases since 2013. The musician claims that at some point he simply stopped releasing music, but has been working on various projects all this time. It shows: this new album feels like the work of a master who doesn’t want to bind himself to any particular genre. Technically it’s still a footwork record like its predecessor, but you can hear strong influences of jungle, dub, reggae and Warp-like IDM. Imagine Squarepusher doing footwork and you’d be on the right path to understanding Damscray’s new sound. The structures of the tracks are constantly twisting and turning, while lo-fi samples collide with glossy beats. In his own words, “I still think that juke and footwork have the best vibe in electronic music,” and you can certainly feel this vibe throughout Make Dem Rhythm.

Echoes of jungle, trance, breakbeat, ambient, hip-hop, bass and hyper-pop mix here into a whirlwind of feelings and styles. The collection starts with a farewell: our old friend Cadeu says goodbye to the departing year with ciao.

Famitsu is a music producer from St. Petersburg. His sound signature blends dreamy romantic melodies with UK Garage, Trance and Happy Hardcore. About Let's Collapse

Let’s Collapse is a collaboration EP between Pixelord and Max Dahlhaus in Moscow and Berlin, respectively. The illusion of the global village, which it seems like yesterday’s, collapsed due to the outbreak of covid-19, but none of this can prevent people from contacting each other. This EP shows how the artists feel in it.

Both artists are good at creating cold music, and the collision of ideas has produced many wonderful changes in the results. The whole EP is like a roaring turbo engine, and the huge sound continuously presses our hearts. There is always some strange but beautiful sound between the heavy drums and the rough background noise, when they appear, it will make the listener's scalp tremble like two sharp pieces of metal rubbed in a flash. All these sounds constitute a sci-fi world, and the rich details bring people into endless spaces of imagination. The world is constantly destroyed and rebuilt in the journey of the seven tracks, and the epic ending leaves all this to the unknown.
