"Hailing from Chicago, Beau Wanzer has carved out a singular voice in electronic music since debuting on the L.I.E.S. label in 2013. Wanzer’s music is not industrial, wave, electro, or techno - it’s a unique and twisted amalgamation of all that, and more. Crazy as it sounds, we at Suction Records have been sitting on this Beau Wanzer material since 2003. Back then Beau was working at Weekend Records And Soap — a Chicago hub for the city’s exploding electro scene — when Solvent and Lowfish rolled into town to perform at an Ersatz Audio label showcase. We met Beau at the shop and he gave us a 21-track CDR. We were instant fans, fast friends, and went on to the share the stage with him several times, well before he released his first records. That CDR contains these 6 tracks now released on 10”-vinyl as the “Do The Spider Shimmy” EP. This is suction049.

Had that CDR not been held onto, and recently-unearthed by Solvent, this music would have disappeared into digital oblivion; Beau had long forgotten them and didn’t even have a copy of these CDR tracks. Beau Wanzer’s trademark sound — raw, minimal electronics and effected-beyond-recognition vocals — were already in full-effect circa 2003, but what makes this material different from his contemporary output is the dry, drumbox-funk influence of Detroit’s Ersatz Audio label (Le Car, ADULT.), which is also heard loud and clear across the EP." text by Suction Records.

Laurin Huber is a prolific figure in the Swiss underground for experimental music and arts. He has been active as a musician and producer in a slew of projects like Wavering Hands, Frederik or legendary Swiss institution Krankenzimmer 204. Having just released his first solo release under the R.E.R. moniker on the label Edipo Re, co-founded by Huber and frequent collaborator Rolf Laureijs in 2016, he now presents his first album under his given name.

Thematically, »Juncture« is perfectly in line with Huber’s approach of thinking globally and acting locally. Highlighting the singularity of specific musical concepts while embedding them firmly in a collaborative network has been the crucial guiding principle in his work for Edipo. The four tracks on »Juncture« aim to work with »superimpositions, interactions, interferences and modes of coexistence,« as Huber explains. »I’m generally interested in thought that tries to look at the world beyond dualisms,« says the artist. »Contemporary feminist theory and philosophies of difference, the critique of dualities such as nature/nurture, body/mind, object/subject or anorganic/organic are therefore important reference points.«

On a musical level, this means working with overlaps and interfering layers, field recordings as well as synthesizers and the experienced drummer’s knack for intricate rhythms. Over the course of more than half an hour, the producer brings together dreamlike synthesizer pieces with stripped down mid-tempo techno pieces, feverish echoes of industrial music and swelling sounds that are juxtaposed with subtle rhythmic counterpoints. In a world in which dualities reign and polarisation increases both socially and culturally, »Junction« serves as an invitation to deconstruct binary thinking by affirming the coexistence of allegedly opposed elements. It does so with striking emotional ambiguity, sometimes lulling in its audience with soothing sounds and in the next challenging them with an ominous atmosphere.

City High Fantasy is a remote collaboration of two prolific and distinct electronic musicians, both alumni of Dream Catalogue label, which released Pixelord’s third album Hypnorave in 2018, and several albums by ambient/experimental musician Sangam from Manchester, UK in the past four years.

The musical journey goes from a highly energetic, dark synth rhythm’n’rave with complex beat structures, further drifting the listener towards melancholic, abstract ambient soundscapes, stretched and frozen in time, with barely noticeable and slowly pulsating beat buried underneath ethereal melodies and hypnagogic synth pads, and back to more energetic percussions and beats. Timeless and timely, an exploration of inner freedom and the intricate ways two creative personalities find to co-exist in the unique, newly created sound universe.


This EP provides a peculiar introspective in the joint creative process of two distinct, self-sufficient artists. Both Pixelord and Sangam have a highly recognizable artistic ‘signature,’ they speak in very different, original musical languages. Somehow, these two private, individualistic, subjective inner creativities found a way to work together, to populate each other’s musical worlds with new sound entities, bringing their own different atmospheres, speaking all new tongues, amalgamating alien concepts and approaches together.

Decoherence illustrates a theoretical framework that once applied to musical composition, may be a more accurate representation of the quantum world. If we abstract away from the specifics of quantum-mechanical models, we can discern a system where an electrical signal interacts with a circuital environment thus becoming amplified or attenuated. Ordinarily, we tend to think of this spectrum modification as destructive, dissipating information about the electrical signal.
The environment induced decoherence can actually enhance our ability to extract information about the system being observed. The quantum-mechanical interference causes a broadening of the spectrum induced by the finite resolution of the measurement process. Decoherence is not a new theory unto itself, but is instead an efficient repackaging of theory.
