Sunday afternoon improvisation on Deopfer A100 modular and MiniMoog Voygaer Old School. The two synchronised well via Control Voltages. The Doepfer sequencer was controlling 2 Analogue Solutions drums modules for kick and snare, a noise generator and a gated envelope for hihat, and two sequenced lines. An LFO on the Doepfer provided the clock for the sequences and the sample and hold on the Moog. A fun afternoon!

Minimoog - Voyager Old School through a Roland space echo pedal. Improvisation using sample and hold setting. A beautiful smooth ambient sound - to me reminiscent of an old sci-fi movie like "The Forbidden Planet".

Nightlight

Tonestepa on Minimoog and Hyperdust on Nord Stage and Mopho. Beats and a repeating bass note are on Cubase (Maschine & Mopho bass), but the rest of the noise is live. There is a CP-251 connected to the Old School Moog, so Tony is controlling 2 LFO's. One slowly oscillating the filter and the other affecting the pitch of Oscillator 2 with sync on. Nord Stage is providing a weird piano like sound, and the Dave Smith Mopho for the lead melody.

Lead synth performed real time on  my adorable Minimoog Old School. I'll post the video soon. I was really enjoying performing the synth like a proper instrument, using many of the knobs to express sound and emotion through the piece.
Backing was done with Aturia Minimoog softsynth, Stylus drums and some Tardis samples off the internet.

Made totally on the new Akai MPC Live, using 606 samples and a single mono bass multisample.
Inspired by an idea from "Land of Confusion" where a single 303 does the bass and high notes with quick slides and bleeps

Distraction

Do we meet God in the real or imaginary?  Is the imaginary world less significent than the real. Mathematicians might call this the complex plane. I seem to meet and face God in my thoughts within my mind, but a friend explained that he meets God in his interactions with people.

I am an electronic musician and the finished product is all digital - a series of binary numbers. Some of it started life as a piece of string or wood vibrating after being hit or plucked. This was recorded, converted to digital code, downloaded via the net, imported to my electronic piano, played by me, sent down wires as voltage flucuations back into the computer and converted back to digital code. Today that code has gone from the ipod back to voltages in a wire, to a magnet and a vibrating speaker - across the air as atoms vibrate, into your ear, triggering nerves and sending waves of electrical impulses to your brain. Some of the sound started as electronic components, some started as pure mathematics. But are electrons and mathematics any less real.

All music is electronic these days unless someone is playing a non-electrical instrument in the room you are in, without any microphones. Just because you can expain something doesn't take away its spiritual meaning. A CD might be just a series of numbers but when played it can still touch your soul.

Where do we meet God? In what space does he dwell that we can enter?

Save Me

A track I've written over Christmas 2010. Decided to explore the Native Instruments softsynths - paticularly Prism, Reaktor & Kore + Stylus. Then I added some synth horn and extra bass off the Dave Smith Mopho. This is the second version as I have improved the bass, but I think I am still not sure about the snare and kick.

Dr Who - backing

I'm a synthesizer player and producer from Bristol UK. I've played in various bands since the early 1980's and musical styles have varied over the years from New Romantic, Rock, Rock/Dance, Trance and various electronica. Not sure what I'm doing now, but I'm enjoying creating more than ever.

I love my synthesizers and particularly playing them live, which you don't see around that often. Moog Voyager Old School - lovely woodwork, Nord Stage compact, Dave Smith Mopho keyboard connected to a Tetra. Moog Phatty sitting in corner now and considering selling it. Doepfer A-100 modular synthesizer - 2 suitcases nearly full. Korg Electribe SX - drum sampler. Korg Radias rack. And various softsynths - particularly Atmosphere, Stylus, Reaktor, Absynth and Arturia ARP 2600. I use Cubase PC although my friends keep trying to convince me to change.
