While this week’s label mix technically comes from Marseille, France, it’s truly the product of the internet. @hyperlinkfr founder Fanny Cahu is an active participant in her corner of internet music, searching for under-the-radar artists to amplify their art through the platform she single-handedly built. 			

“While there's no rigid sound, I aim for coherence within a particular niche, representing what I love most—ranging from ambient to pop to grime, with a strong emphasis on sound design,” she told Nina.

Her label mix is a testament to the label’s diverse, yet aesthetically focused and refined output. She effortlessly steers through catalog highlights, ranging from eerie ambient tracks to post-apocalyptic drum-and-bass to experimental pop.

You cannot separate pleasure from pain. Grotesque drums hiss and boom inside drill’s stricture, voices utter shattered phrases to each other in a darkening chain of whispers, synthetic violins mourn their last and rush towards singularity. Drawing upon the ‘self indulgent, purple prose’ of Angela Carter, the staggering works of composers Villa Lobos and Xennakis, the fissure between pagan mysticism of England past and its feckless, soul consuming present; ‘England as a Succubus’ is a lustful spirit that writhes and vibrates against a backdrop of lurid sonic pressure. 

Raised amongst the trees of the North Dorset countryside and presently residing in Manchester, Ship Sket grapples with a frenetic and maximalist style that subverts and perverts expectations of UK bass music with equal measure.

His new EP 'England as a Succubus' will be out on 7th June 2024 on Illegal Data.

The 41st release of katharsis is the EP “swansong” by jhl & jett mucicca coming out on May 3rd. The two New Zealand-based artists portray a dark and dramatic world of love and pain in this five-track collaborative release, drawing inspiration from poetry, opera, and fantasy worldbuilding. The result is both endearing and epic with its glittering synths, grandiose sound design, and poignant orchestral elements. jhl’s vocals carry big emotions through all five songs, as the lyrics are characterized by heartbreak and despair though still full of hope and love.

@ancestralvision is a Prague-based producer, dj and is the co-founder of @unizonelabel. They started Unizone together with @djnotsureyet in 2017. After 2 years of heavy partying and showcasing producers from all over the world (Imaabs, Kablam, Wulffluw XCIV), Unizone shifted their focus to label activities and regular biweekly radio show on Radio1.cz

Unizone head honcho enjoys heavy beats and dirty breaks as much as he loves bold emotional melodies, calm soundscapes or spiritual choirs. It makes perfect sense that you can find all of these elements in his hybrid-club production and mixes.
