Disquiet Junto 0721 invited us to provide musical accompaniment to a storm. 

This one made me think of my grandmother. She and I would sit in her glassed-in porch and drink tea while the storms of the Atlantic coastal summer raged outside, wind throwing sheets of rain against the windows, the sky purple with flashes of white, the thunder making the ground shake. 

She helped me understand the difference between awe and fear.

In recording this, I tried to be respectful of the storm as it happened. I did very little editing. I tried to give the storm plenty of room to move around in, saying what I needed to say in the spaces between the peals of thunder.

Bass music activist @Backgroundsounds is the head of the @SeekSickSound webzine and a member of The Bass Society crew. He is also half of noise / bass duo @Haxomusic. As a DJ, he works at the crossroads between different styles and trends of forward-thinking bass music, (re-)connecting scenes and hybrid sounds between grime, UK Garage, dubstep, breakbeat, techno or jungle, around a minimalistic, break-focused and syncopated sound ranging from 100 to 165BPM.

Alice aka @janloup is a Toulouse-based producer & DJ. She focuses on the psychic healing that comes with the musical experience and she seeks to stir the emotional, ecstatic and cathartic properties that sound can conjure. In 2017, she and friends founded @acolora, an electro-experimental collective / micro-label. Jan Loup is also co-running @airatoulouse with @djwrestling, @thehomeopathics and @humtsi_tuluz, a project focused on atmosphere, offering an alternative from the clubs. As a student at the Beaux Arts, she also explores visual propositions.

Athens based artists Anastasios Tatsis and Spiros Alfa started their relationship as @ice_eyes members some years ago. Together they produce leftfield electronic music forms. Both artists are constantly experimenting with modern club territories, techniques, and atmospheres. Their favorite palette of materials consists of advanced dynamic sound motifs, sub-zero pitched bass drops, and rhythmic alchemies. Having released music on @seagrave-3, @genotcentre, and @2anba2, their material is sculpted and emerging from a vast community of innovative artists.Their music has been remixed/reformed from worldwide emblematic artists like ZULI, Renick Bell, Galen Tipton, CXLO to mention a few. The prolific duo is currently hosting a bimonthly show on Threads Radio,while they occasionally stop by NTS, Noods and other Radio stations/hubs to spin new music.

@Ytem has crafted his own voice within the experimental club music scene with his productions and DJ sets combining cinematic melodies and rough hardstyle-inspired drums, sometimes akin to an horror show score. He has released countless singles, remixes, collaborations, including on labels such as Slagwerk, [Re]sources, and Flood. 2018 saw ‘Dangereux’, his debut EP, released on his own Abîme imprint (co-founded with Chams), an illustration of recurring dreams he has had, a duality between atmospheric soundscapes and hardstyle patterns, between immensity and emptiness.

Ytem has toured extensively across Europe, playing in cities such as London, Brussels, and Paris and is often is invited to play radios shows; Circadian Rhythms (NTS), Rinse France, 10Twenty.
His tracks have been played by esteemed artists such as Caterina Barbieri, Zuli, Tzusing, and Dark0. In 2018, he played his first Boiler Room set in which he shifts through genres such as French hip-hop, jersey club, happy hardcore, trance, hard drum, and dubstep.
