Celes is an artist based in New York. Her music melds the enigmatic and the technical, traversing uplifting rave performances, crushing drone, synthetic machinations and beyond. She mines hidden, deeply felt emotional territory, capturing and channelling chaotic sensory entities and redirecting them toward a heartstopping emotional release.

Café is her debut Club Paradiso release. The album is a transference of divine energy, bound, distilled and purified. Artificial angels reconstituted from charred selkie matter: strobe haloes, hardcoded virtue sensors, plied and fused mechawings. Brutal cyborgian femininity, a slow-swaying dance on the border of Nothingness and Totality. Café sighs and shimmers like a digital mirage, blissed out and blessed up in equal measure.

"‘ILYSM’ is about perfect moments lived and yet to come. Casting back a gaze, indulging the trembling embrace of nostalgia, the border between revisiting the past and remaining there. It’s about teenage epiphanies, the first music-induced skip of a heartbeat; breathing, whispering, feeling. The dazzle of a dream only realised in retrospect.

It’s intimate and glittery. The featherlite driftaways of ‘this reminds me of U’ and ‘if u want’ shimmer like morning light through rain-flecked windows, while Mikey Enwright’s diaristic meditations on ‘airborne’ swirl and sigh over an instrumental that sparkles as it soars. ‘what rhymes with getting by’ and ‘if life was soft’ seem wrapped in soft-spun gauze, delicate like memory. This album grapples with what’s happened and holds its head up high to what’s next. It heals and it pulls apart. It knows life is imperfect but contains perfection."

SLA21: 'Whorl' by @deejaycharme is the first single of 'Starling', out Thursday March 28th.  

Gavin Vanaelst, also known as DJ Charme (formerly recognized as Kassett), produces electronic music that varies from bombastic ambient compositions to lofty rhythmic cuts. In the past he has collaborated with notable artists like Dntel, Golin, Lauren Auder and Zwangere Guy. His debut album 'Charme' in 2018 received support from renowned international labels such as Warp. After a brief period of silence, DJ Charme returned in October with his second full-length album, 'Hartenjagen', followed now by the 5-track extended play 'Starling', which marks his debut on Slagwerk.

Heliacal Rising is a celestial phenomenon where a star, planet, or constellation first becomes visible above the eastern horizon at dawn, just before being obscured by the rising sun's light. 

It symbolizes a renewal, the rebirth of light, and the timeless dance between darkness and dawn.

'Heliacal Rising' is a collaborative work, co-created by Quit Life, Azrel, and amazing vocalists : Trophie, Olalla.lux and W.ANNA.W. They have helped shape the identity of the EP. Their voices add layers of meaning and emotion, turning each track into a living, breathing entity. Through serendipitous connections on Instagram and Soundcloud : Heliacal Rising was born.

Music is a vital escape from the routines of daily life, a source of energy and solace. We hope Heliacal Rising offers the same refuge and inspiration to our listeners, allowing them to find their own moments of peace and rejuvenation.
