I love the amazing use of build ups in this song and I also like the energy when it reaches the climaxes. This song feels very hopeless in some parts with the slow areas feeling sort of sad with their melancholic vibe and muffled vocals. In huge contrast to that, as the song builds up it becomes more hopeful and when the song hits it’s quite energetic especially the second time around. This specific moment is probably the most hopeful to me and while there’s still a pretty sad backing bit and it’s still there I feel like it gets drowned out by the immense hopeful nature of the song at this point in time. Finally, the hope dies out at the end and there’s the same sad instrumentals used earlier that become audible again.

I can’t analyze lyrics like at all but from just the melody alone I feel like a story has been told and, for me, this sound is honestley an emotional journey about hope and how there will always be hopelessness and sad parts to life but hope is the one force that can drown that out and bring you to a better and brighter reality. That or I’m way over analyzing this and the song is just some dude singing over a cool melody he thought of. Keep up the good wor- oh wait this is from 2009 ok never mind.

Over the last five years, the band have accumulated more EPs and albums than most bands achieve in several lifetimes, blurring garage rock, lo-fi, anti-folk, prog, psych and pop into one almost indefinable expanse. More than any of these previous releases, In The Best Case… incorporates the songwriting input of James Buzzanca (bass) and Joe Coleby (drums) resulting in epic, tight, bass-rich sonics akin to Mystery Jets, The Wave Pictures, Herman Dune and Arcade Fire. On top of these sit the abstract, everyday lyricism of frontman Reginald Foxwell charting topics ranging from the relative speed of slugs to death to love to the end of the world.
