Mick Wills is no stranger to Frigio Records, the German Dj and producer has turned his hand to edits and remixes on previous releases and now arrives with his own 12” of edits for the volumen 4th of the label’s Ecdisis series. The source material for the two pieces on offer comes from Brazil’s Simbolo, a band formed in 1988 and still active with a career spanning more than thirty years, was a central player in South America’s EBM and Synth scene.

Wills has selected two tracks from the Brazilian’s back catalogue, the first being “Mind.” Industrial influences come immediately to the fore, complex drum patterns give way to a juddering groove in which guttural vocals depict a scene of hurt and pain. “Synchrono” occupies the flip. Taken from the 1995 album, In the Danger Zone, the original two minute
piece is extended into a seven plus minute epic. Following on from “Mind”, “Synchrono” melts stuttering bass-lines and textured percussion with indecipherable lyrics counter-balancing heady strings.

The third KRI Records release features the infamous Italo Moderni label boss Adrian Marth joining forces with the Italian EBM master Diana Berti (Violet Poison)and it's belter. Warm and punchy analog beats are spiced with haunting melodies and sinister pads that will break even the toughest of ravers. Sturdy EBM-ish, dark italo and wave production is cushioned with Adrian's mysterious vocals adding yet another layer to a diverse EP accompanied by two heavy-weight remixes.

Magic Fantasia is reimagined as a dirty electro firecracker by Chupacabras (L.I.E.S.) while Panoramix Forest is transformed into a commanding EBM march by Chino (Pinkman).

Think of Dario Argenti walking int a dark club at 3 AM ...

Schicksal is the alias of Rudi Huybrechts coming from Hoboken, a small town near Antwerp. He started experimenting with synths and drum computers in 1982. Heavily inspired by Front 242 first album “Geography”, DAF’s elektronische körpermusik “Alles Ist Gut” and Kraftwerk’s “Man Machine” and “Computer World”, Rudi spent lot of hours programming and composing at home with just some gear and a tape recorder. Some of these tracks appeared on local compilations but it was not until the hype of New Beat in Belgium that Schicksal gained a real attention. In 1988 Rudi persuaded Marc Grouls, the resident DJ of discotheque Prestige in Antwerp, to play the track “24 hours”. All the people on the dancefloor just got wild and the next day Schicksal signed a contract with Maurice Engelen for the release of a maxi-single on Subway Records (SUBWAY 48).

The artist is back on the label with their new EP 'The Arm Remixes'. The EP features remixes from Commuter, Federico Leocata, Vondkreistan and fresh underwater mix from nerve master Moralez. 

From the start, 'Temple of Light (https://soundcloud.com/commuter Remix)’ provides high energy, electrostatics and hyper-realistic experience in your mind. Analog rhythms, atmospheres (similar sounds you could hear in the 'Duran Duran’ 1st album)  and unconventional dance electronics here. Great remix from italo to wave, EBM to electro. French DJ and producer Laurent Paranthoën aka Commuter not a beginner and his works always great. This is confirmed by releases on Cultivated Electronics (together with The Hacker), Bass Agenda, Elektrofon, Skryptöm and others specialized labels. Recommended for italo and electro friends.

"This is Bizarr, my first full length record. On this release, I tried to amp up the ritualistic tendencies found on the Diabel EP, which was also released at Knekelhuis. I’ve always been intrigued by the world of rituals and transcendence, both from an anthropological and spiritual perspective. Bizarr is built around these concepts and to create it I traveled to the island of Phuket, Thailand, to experience and embrace the soul and spirit of the Nine Emperor Gods festival, also known as the Vegetarian Festival. It has its origins in the beginning of the 19th century and is held annually in September/October in accordance with the Chinese lunar calendar. The latter makes sense, because Phuket is home to a large Taoist Chinese minority, an ethnic group calling themselves Peranakan. They are descendants of Chinese settlers, who believe that abstinence from meat and various stimulants is beneficial to good health, peace, and purity of the mind. The celebrations include performances held to invoke the gods, where white-clad participants act like mediums. These so-called Masong strive to achieve a pure state of being that enables them to connect with their ancestors and demons. When this state of trance is reached, ancestors are able to enter body and soul. Flagellation and auto-mutilation are used to reach this possessed plain of consciousness. These acts of piercing, flagellating and puncturing different body parts with knives, swords and other items simultaneously enhance this state. It may look torturous, but pain is absent due to the trance-like state and the protection of the gods, resulting in little blood or scarring.  
 
This fascination for these unusual rituals didn’t come out of thin air. My music has been deeply influenced by the legendary Coil, whose Peter Christopherson (also of Throbbing Gristle fame) moved to Thailand after Coil co-member Jhonn Balance died in 2004. Peter explored the world of Thai ritualistic culture as The Threshold HouseBoys Choir, releasing Form Grows Rampant, an album based on material collected at GinJae festival, a Nine Emperor Gods variation held in the Thai Krabi region. Unfortunately, Christopherson’s untimely death prevented him from furthering his explorations into the sound and spirit of his new country of residence. The Threshold HouseBoys Choir’s music and videos clearly paved the way for my interest in Thai culture. I delved into the world of Thai ritual practices, reading and watching as many sources as possible, before deciding to take things a step further by visiting the Vegetarian festival myself. This truly emotional and deeply inspirational journey left an indelible impression on me. I sensed something I can only describe as ‘vision almost tangible’, which gave me a very clear view on how the record would materialize. Bizarr signifies a defining step for me as an artist. The whole experience not only taught me a lot about the otherness of Thai culture, but even more so about the peculiarities of Western society - especially the superficiality of solely focusing on material gain."

Without any inhibition, without labels, without expiring date, without any predominant doctrine. Our intention will be to publish the work of all those artists that we could identify with. The known, and the yet to know. As you could be.
