The streets were paved with gold, a secluded seaside town where dreams were made and those who'd failed came to retire into the sunset. They sat upon street corners, in parks and upon the shore looking out on the tourists and the faces who came and went with no attachment to this place. It was not their legacy just a passing place, yet to some it was home. A lonely retreat in the outback of a country on the brink. It was beautiful. 

Abstrakce Records are a label based in Valencia, an imprint with a penchant for the experimental and come from a far collection of influences. They are set to release a new LP from Senthulà, am alias of José Guerrero. The album is a collection of wild expansive instrumental escapes and pays homage to diy culture. It also features a remix from Tolouse Low Trax.

Ears On Earth & Super Utu present Household Choirs: A selection of housebound voices singing together in harmony. From forth the abodes of 11 independent nations come 22 songs spread across two CDs inside a limited edition double jewel case designed by EOE’s Danilo.

The recent disruption of daily life has caused us to reflect and consider what we believe to be meaningful, important and what brings joy to our existence. For the dance community who have had their places of worship shut down indefinitely, a unifying space we can all occupy is a freedom of the mind. In physical confinement, freedom becomes a state of mind; A place to visit when we can’t move our bodies the way we want to. These two CDs symbolise inside and outside dance spaces made inaccessible to us by the pandemic.

So we gathered a choir of households to share their voices.

Movement as Medicine

PREMIERE #1225 | Tassilo Vanhöfen - Paradise Lost [Electric Shapes] 2020

Fired up on high energy Electrons, Timothy Clerkin’s imprint Insult To Injury (the label he runs with perennially on-point platform Ransom Note) is back with another arsenal of acid-tinged techno firearms. Manchester’s own Buran light the Bunsen burner & get things super-heated with their analogue heroics. Both tracks are borne from live jams, with minimal adjustment before going to press. 

Test phase completed, first out the blocks is Beta, employing a monster low end 303 and analogue percussion to create a menacing floor destroyer. This savage assault is quickly followed by Kincaid’s reimagining of the track – slowed down and, for want of a better phrase, like, totally dubbed out, maaaan. Electro collides with Space Echo for a truly unique experience. 

Particles is next, with some serious up-a-gear oomph; full on foot-stomping action, with relentlessly driven acidic bass that takes us back to a time when we could lose ourselves to a groove on the dance-floor. Peak time, rolling techno that demands you move your body. 

Finally, we wind up business with Earth Trax’s ferocious take on Particles. Stripping things back somewhat and highlighting the laser-focused sounds of the original, he’s created a space battle in electro-work-out format. Synth projectiles whizz by our ears before we’re ejected in the vacuum of space with a serene, synth-lead soundscape coda.

For the very only release of 2020, Blue Night Jungle decided to go 100% DIY. Through a 100% hand-dubbed tape and 9 tracks, we decided to gather many of the artists that attracted our attention in the recent months - as with long-time friends from the BNJ Catalogue (shout out to Lyon’s Jibis and Vardae). As 2020 wanted to, the compilation goes out of the club and reunites various atmospheres and musics. Sci-Fi ambient with Smogo, cavernous D’nB from Vardae, Adhémar’s electronica, greek downtempo of Anatolian Weapons and acid reflexions with Jibis, DudMode and Boskøw : this is just a glimpse of what you’ll hear there. Enjoy the ride !
