Midgar is very happy to deliver a new release by Wata Igarashi!!! Anticipated since few weeks already, with the two bonus digital tracks ´Mantle´ and ´Displacement´ (both available for free download), Ciphers EP is a rich assemblage of deep sonic excursions showing throughout a strong coexistence of organic and virtual elements. The record opens with ´Ciphers´, where a fast paced sandy groove is driving high on drones via sparking ambiances. Second track, ´Hailstones´ is basically a beat knocking its way outside, under a heavy hi-hat hail, slashed by snares and haunted by holographic spirits. On the B-side ´Lucifero´ carries a mellow but powerful mood, sounds like a morning star that gradually transforms into a supernova, is definitely the more dancefloor oriented cut of the release. Closing the vinyl, the slow-footed ´Cocytus´ is the complete opposite of its previous track, because of a cold, grave rhythm, treated like a windswept tree. Finally, the only digital tracks, ´Mantle´ and ´Displacement´ are perfectly resuming Wata Igarashi sound signature, as trippy gatherings of crafted beats joining drones and deformed soundscapes, the first is mind stressing and epic at certain stages, while the second vibrates so dreamy as it´s made of percussions and supernatural blows.

Bulgarian producer Gabriella Vergilov returns to Thema Recordings with a selection of inspired techno cuts featuring two remixes from Alan Oldham under his DJ T-1000 guise.

Once planted, certain seeds tend to grow faster than others. To say this is the case with Gabriella Vergilov is by and large an understatement. Debuting on Thema’s digital series in 2016, she’s continued turning heads with a follow up release on Dustin Zahn’s Enemy Records. Returning to Lenny Posso’s renowned label, ‘Termosfera’ sees Vergilov in fine form and many will recognise ‘Boring Shit’ from fabric 96 by DVS1, one of her many fans alongside Truncate, Anastasia Kristensen, DJ Rolando, Machine Woman, Francois X and KiNK.

This release encompasses Vergilov’s wide range of influences as she channels exquisite rhythms, with the pulsating synths and crystalline atmospherics of ‘Termosfera’ and throbbing bass and seductive whispers of ‘Siempre Loco’. Next up is the punishing ‘Boring Shit’ with its rattling hats and trippy effects whilst Vergilov’s final original is an ethereal beatless affair named ‘Atmosfera’.

Bringing two reinterpretations of ‘Boring Shit’, DJ T-1000’s remixes are exemplary of how he brilliantly blends classic Detroit elements with tough modern techno. His “Not So Boring” Remix skips along with an aquatic aesthetic complete with punchy snares and metallic details, whilst the Alternate Remix is less deep in comparison whilst employing more robust percussion.

The first collaborative release between @RomanFlügel and @DanielAvery arrives on Live at Robert Johnson, under the guise of ‘Noun’. 

Initially recorded some years ago across just two days at Flügel’s former Frankfurt studio, both tracks represent a meeting point between the sensibilities of two of the best-loved producers in contemporary electronic music. Patient, even minimal psychedelia shares space with the driving club music that defines both Avery and Flügel’s individual DJ sets, as well as a number of occasional back-to-back performances, where the music of Noun has since been reliably reached-for and re-contextualised ever since.

Indeed, it speaks for the confidence and craft in this debut collaboration that Noun begins with ‘Meeting of the minds’, a textural delight that finds the Anglo-Germanic pair at their unremittingly trippiest. An analogue, unwavering transmission, as if pirated from Avery’s celebrated frequencies, is wrapped around minimal drum percussion, guaranteed to equally appeal to fans of the more experimental, reduced moments in Flügel’s back catalogue. Tense as the mood may seem, in these offbeat sonic corners, lay pockets of intrigue and moments of bliss.

On ‘Team Silent’, the impact is more immediate. As the seams between individual influences melt away, Flügel and Avery roll out something tougher and more direct; a blossoming, somewhat dystopian drive-by-night of softly soaring synths, ecstatic feedback and tough drums. Somehow both understated and anthemic, this is a true late night jam courtesy of two masters of club culture. Years later, and what a difference two days makes.
