Nicolaj @Nendza is a budding artist from Bremen. Now based in Leipzig improving his work day by day. 

This is his debut mix for Hypress, a compilation of his own productions and his taste of contemporary  EBM, Noisy, Industrial and broken Techno. 

His work reached Leipzig when he had his first release in 2019 on @Ekserd  label @ressortimprint.
In 2020 further releases were released on Chris Stanfords label: "@prodigalsonuk".

Benabou emerged from Europe’s vinyl labyrinths into the vibrant world of techno. Influenced by labels like Token, Polegroup, and Hypnus, her experimental sound blends ambient, ethereal synths with early inspirations from jazz, soul, and psychedelia - drawing listeners into a dark, hypnotic realm. 

INTERVIEW
Berlin is such a heavy influence for so many artists. How has living there shaped your evolution - musically or personally?

As a DJ, being in the « core » of the electronic music field has been quite enlightening.
I’ve been exposed to a lot of different vibes, which has made me more aware of what I’m really sensitive to, what I truly like, and what I don’t.
I moved here mainly to grow as a mastering and cutting engineer, and I’m grateful because things are going in the right direction. I’ve already had the opportunity to work with great labels, to cut great music, and my knowledge keeps getting refined.


You’re a mastering engineer—doing something that’s often an invisible part of making music. How has that deep, technical listening influenced the way you produce music or your approach to selecting tracks to play?

I’m not sure if my work as a mastering engineer directly influences the way I produce music, and I don’t feel comfortable mastering my own tracks. However, it does somehow play a role in how I pick tracks to play. I’m naturally more sensitive to details and I do pay close attention to how a track sounds ; in my opinion, a great track loses 50% of its potential if the mix or mastering isn’t optimized for it.
I also always consider how a track will translate on a big sound system - and on which one specifically. For example, if a track has a particularly wide or busy low end, I’ll think twice before playing it, depending on the venue and its acoustics. Not all sound systems transmit sound accurately and it’s something to take into consideration


Your mix for 6D. comes straight from the floor of Tresor Berlin. What kind of journey were you hoping to create for the audience there?

It was my very first closing, and naturally I felt a bit nervous before. In the end I could play whatever I felt like playing, went with the flow and the vibe, picked my fav tracks.
That night I learned that: it doesn’t matter who plays before, at any BPM speed, any intensity, any kind of vibe: the closing - just like opening - is a slot that offers a lot of freedom, which makes it so special and exciting. It was such a rewarding experience. Hope you’ll enjoy the set !

Temasa is a Hamburg based Techno DJ and Producer. As Resident of the renowned nightclub [PAL] he already made his way on the radar of the scene. In 2023 he launched his new event series 'NEOGEN' which focuses on emerging artists, who represent and rethink the genre's primal themes.

INTERVIEW
Tell us about your beginnings - how did your journey into music and DJing start?

My musical journey started very early - I started playing different instruments at the age of five. So music has always been an important part of my life. When I was 14, I discovered electronic music - especially minimal techno, dubstep and drum and bass. These genres immediately fascinated me and inspired me to become active myself. That's how I eventually got into DJing.

How do you envisage your sound developing over the next few years?

My sound is currently characterised by hypnotic, driving and groovy techno - and this core will remain in the future. At the same time, it's important to me to constantly evolve. I always want to have new influences to keep my sound modern and lively, without losing sight of the classic basic themes and the essence of techno as a genre.

If you could design your dream night - line-up, venue, vibe - what would it look like?

My dream night is not a classic headliner event. I really like discovering new artists and being surprised - that's why I appreciate parties where the line-up is carefully curated and up-and-coming acts are deliberately given a stage. If you avoid big names, the entrance fee can also remain more affordable, which in turn gives more people access to the event. I also like it when new venues are opened up or I can get to know new clubs. This mixture of openness, curiosity and community vibe often brings with it a very special energy and makes for the perfect night for me.
