Recording of Simo Cell's set at Dekmantel Selectors 2021.

Dekmantel Selectors 2021 was a much needed musical reunion. After the preceding period of stillness, the catharsis and pure joy of finally being together again has been overwhelming. In the words of Simo Cell: "It's 7pm, and I have 5 missed calls on my phone: 'We're expecting massive rain tonight and we will have to close your stage earlier, is it okay for you to play earlier?' No time to stress and to think about it. I left my place and started my set straight away. From a few people to a packed dancefloor, I built up slowly from 90bpm to 160bpm (you know the drill). Pretty happy about the progression of the set and the rise in intensity. In the end, the crowd turned into a mosh pit on XXXtentacion and I had the best time behind the decks. It's good when things sometimes happen spontaneously like that. And it didn't rain after all."

Simo Cell at Dekmantel Selectors 2021

SYSTEM airways circles back to London this month with one of the city's breakout producer / DJs in recent years - @tsvisions. Co-running the @nervoushorizon label while dropping regular releases on various other seminal imprints, this mix seems him in party mode - full  to the brim with tripped-out cyclical club grooves, thrilling acid dancehall rhythms, and new era soundsystem wreckers.

Big A.D. returns to 909 with a playful mix originally pulled together for a Nowadays live stream.

Based in New York City, Andrew Devlin first dabbled with electronic music in 2009 but it wasn’t until 2019 that he fully immersed himself and started working on the tracks you’ll find on ‘Something New’. A man of many interests and projects, Andrew founded the party series The Level Party with DJ Voices and Onkel-S, runs a small business called Devlin’s, is an avid cook and likes to spend time shooting hoops.

Speaking about the mix, Andrew says, “I recorded this mix for a Nowadays live stream early in the pandemic. I was unemployed at the time, and feeling pretty uncertain about the future (like the rest of us). I did luck into a pair of CDJs for home use, though, so I had spent a lot of time just goofing off on those and messing with effects/ weird blends. It felt a bit like when I was first learning how to DJ, trying to mix DJ Shadow into house records. This is kind of the result of that."

"This is the first mix I've put out in a while and so I wanted to channel all my energy in. There's a lot of music I discovered over the past year from producers already established on my radar and new too. I love blending afro vocals and instrumentation with the percussion of techno and grime and finding the sweet spot that links it all together so there's a lot of unifying moments that capture the breadth of what I'm into and how it all connects.
