Dennis Brown was an artist who bridged both music and poetry. He recorded more than 75 albums in a career that spanned 30 years. Entering the hearts of entire generations both in and out of the world of reggae, he became Bob Marley’s favorite singer.The second volume of “Icons” is an homage to this singer and poet. He was unaware of his natural nobility until reggae lovers titled him The Crown Prince of Reggae.

Brigadier Jerry (born Robert Russell, 28 September 1957, Kingston, Jamaica)[1] is a Jamaican dancehall reggae deejay known for his "cultural" lyrics.
Russell was born in the Papine area of eastern Kingston in 1957, and he became interested in music at an early age, initially linking with U Roy's King Stur-Gav Hi-Fi sound system.[2] Jerry's earliest stage appearances were as a young man performing stand-up comedy, but he soon switched to deejaying for local sound systems. He became a member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel organization's Rastafarian branch by 1978[3] and spread their message on the Jah Love Muzik sound system.[2] By 1980, Brigadier Jerry was one of Jamaica's most sought-after performers by sound systems across the island, and a well-respected deejay among his peers. He recorded for Studio One in the early 1980s before having his first hits with "Pain" (on the Answer/Never Let Go riddim) and "Gwan a School" for producer Delroy Stansbury on the Jwyanza label in 1982.[1][2] His first album was the live recording Live at the Controls in 1983, and his debut studio album,Jamaica Jamaica, was released in 1985.

Jerry also nurtured the career of his sister, who performed and recorded as Sister Nancy.[2]

Briggy (as he is affectionately called) often chats verses directly from the Bible, and preaches against the evils of slackness in dancehall music when performing. He attributes his unique pattern to melding together the styles of a few artists who came before him, including U-Roy, Prince Jazzbo, Big Youth, and Dennis Alcapone.[4]

Jerry has recorded six albums over the years, but the bulk of his career has been spent touring the world, as well as Jamaica, performing over countless sound systems. He still records the occasional single, most recently for the Ranking Joe label, but remains primarily a live performer (mostly for King Sturgav). He is considered by many to be U-Roy's greatest student; a stable which includes Ranking Joe, Josey Wales, Charlie Chaplin, U Brown on down to modern-day deejays such as Buju Banton.

He has lived in New York with his wife and children between 1988 and 1991 before returning to Jamaica and performing again on the Jah Love Muzik sound system. In the late 1990s, U-Roy revived his Stur-Gav sound and Jerry returned as a touring deejay.[5] He is now based in the United States.

Starts out with what might be the best lovers rock tune from the period. Maybe Mos Def thinks the same when he layed the lyrics ”…she walked away smiling singing Gregory Isaacs like, if I don't if I don't have you…” Maybe singers like Tenor Saw, Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott or Barrington Levy were more important for the rub a dub-period but Gregory Isaacs probably did the biggest song with "Night Nurse". Even though my personal favourite here is this later take of "Once Ago". "Can't Give You My Love Alone" has always been one of the tunes that I gotta play when it's vinyl night. The mix and this period in Gregorys career ends with rougher tunes which reflects his harder life. I read somewhere that he walked the streets in Kingston with a weapon hidden under the coat and robbed people of their drug money. And yes, I read it before I watched The Wire…

I-SHENCE was founded in 1996 in Perugia (Italy). 
In 1999 they started organizing events and cutting dubplates, thank's to I-SHENCE the Perugia massive have seen artists like Sizzla, Buju Banton, Morgan Heritage, Barrington Levy, Bushman, The Wailers, Luciano, The I-Threes, Sugar Minnot, Tristan Palmer, General Degree and many more...and also sounds like: Killamanjaro, Pow Pow, One Love, Soundquake, David Rodigan, LP I'ntl, Supersonic and many others in they're own small town and Perugia started being considered as one of Italy's hottest yards.
From 2001 to 2006 I-SHENCE participated in 4 soundclashes in Italy winning all except against Villa Ada at the X-Mas clash in Padova, one in France(Marseille)losing in tune fi tune... and one in Spain "SPANISH CLASH '06" Bringing home the trophy !!! 
In December 2006 I-Shence were invited to perform at the Mass in Brixton, London by David Rodigan where they juggled together longside !!! 
In 2007 I-SHENCE continued to tour all over Italy and performed abroad in Spain, Belgium, Germany and for the first time in JAMAICA on Easter Friday at DUTTY FRIDAYS (Fletchers Land, Kingston) before Fire Links, Bounty Killer and Mavado !!!!!
In the same year some members of I-SHENCE moved to Kingston Jamaica for 4 months were they collected dubplates for themselves and provided a Dubplate service for many European sounds which continues and has been successful to this day.
In 2008 I-Shence participated in the "Call the undertaker clash" A home and away clash; 1 in Mannheim (Germany) and 1 in Rome (Italy) It ended in a tie, I-Shence winning in Germany and Citylock winning in Italy!!!
In 2013 I-Shence toured with HALF PINT in Spain, Ibiza & Italy and in 2014 they clashed with Ma Gash from switzerland defeating them in the dub fi dub !
2014 also saw the return of I-Shence in Jamaica where they performed at the Road block in Port Antonio and B&G mondays in downtown Kingston!!!
