В конце территории между жизнью и смертью, которую называют Бардо Тодол, есть маленькая сувенирная лавка со всякой всячиной. Перед очередным рождением души бродят по Бардо 49 дней и в конце придаются невинному занятию – шопингу. Они не знают, что на полках нет ничего, кроме чужих воспоминаний. 

At the end of the territory between life and death, which is called Bardo Thodol, there is a small souvenir shop with all sorts of things. Before the next birth, the souls roam the Bardo for 49 days and at the end they indulge in an innocent occupation - shopping. They do not know that there is nothing on the shelves but other people's memories.

The German word unheimlich is translated as “eerie” or “uncanny.” At its root lies the word heim — meaning “home.”

There is nothing more terrifying than something that was once familiar, but has now returned in a distorted form. Or, for example, a familiar house that suddenly reveals spaces which never existed before.

But perhaps we fear something precisely because it is, at its core, deeply familiar to us?

And it is no coincidence that the “mad grandfathers” found in every family taught us to walk toward our fear.
