The voice is soul, but it’s country too and something else indefinable; like you heard it before but don’t know where… Introducing Better Days, The Meltdown’s first release on HopeStreet Recordings.

There’s a fair chance you haven’t heard that voice before, because for the last few years Simon Burke has been flying small planes out of small airfields in the dusty backcountry and taking refuge from the hustle and grind of the music business to raise a young family. The time off has been fruitful. A lifetime of writing and experience is condensed into a golden set of songs and a killer new band, The Meltdown, which Simon formed in collaboration with saxophonist and arranger Lachlan McLean. Great vibe, great players, great sound, but it’s the songs that are king here.

There are a lot of soul revival bands around, but the Meltdown’s angle is different  – Simon and Lachlan are both pretty country and The Meltdown has more than a bit of that Ray Charles country via gospel thing, and a taste of dirty blues in it too. Echoes of towns like Euroa and Avenel, where the boys blew in from, or just artistic license? Either way, if there’s one thing that soul and country can both do for you, it’s songs about heartbreak, so here’s some rippers. Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce to you the inimitable voice and songwriting of Mr Simon Burke. And yes, in advance, you’re welcome.

This is pretty ideal, right? It's 4 PM on Saturday afternoon at a four-day festival. Energy levels are beginning to sag. You're itching to build momentum for the night ahead. Then, up steps Andrew Weatherall with a Love From Outer Space set, in which he slowly and soothingly builds a vibe, taking you from hesitant to hedonistic in 90 minutes.

This is how it went down when Up Yer Ronson took over the Mint Warehouse in Leeds and threw an 'Ibiza Reunion All Day & All Night Terrace Party'. To truly capture the Ibiza vibe, you need to have an outdoor terrace! So we set about recreating the most famous Ibiza terrace of them all...Space Terrace (pre-roof). Then we installed a Funktion One sound system and decked it out with camo netting. The music was supplied by some of Ibiza's original Space residents, Brandon Block, Alex p & Jason Bye with added percussive beats from Manumission legend Pav...all supported by the talented long standing resident DJs, Leeds legend Marshall, Paul Murray, Neil Metzner, Andy Ward & Lee James. 

Opening up the sun kissed outdoor terrace at 3.30pm playing back 2 back were Andy Ward & Neil Metzner who played wicked selection of forgotten gems which set up the vibe perfectly for the day/night ahead. Turn it up LOUD and relive this unbelievable party! Enjoy x

"I just wanted to remember the day I decided to share this music, I wrote this and how I was feeling.

Other worlds, Other Sounds... it reminded me that music was always this to me: a traveling vehicle, escaping, dreaming, shifting my mood... meditating on these sounds it's a bittersweet feeling, like I thought I should make a fun mix, I thought, it should be a celebratory, joyful feeling and it's so hard to bring myself to be content with just that. It needs to be connecting me with the rest of the world and what we are going through, spiritually.
